  • Good product
Style: Heavy Cream
I try a lot of new foods and spices, and sometimes I just can't get them to work. So far I have not been able to get this product NOT to work. it is yummy in every form I have tried it in. I have no idea what I am doing with it and it turns every dish into something earthy yet exotic. A great discovery for my kitchen! Will buy again. ... show more

  • High Quality Product.
Style: Heavy Cream
My husband and I bought this for a camping trip because we like cream, real cream in our coffee, I had tried powdered milk, but I may as well be adding water to my coffee, and so we looked in to buying some powdered cream and this was the best deal that we could find. I really like that the ingredients are just freeze dried cream, nothing more. I was a little bit weary of the taste, I thought it might taste weird, being it is dried, so I gave it a few different test to see how it fared. I first tried it with instant coffee, and it had a weird taste to it, and I was not impressed with the flavor of the cream, it tasted like cooked cream essentially, and I was very underwhelmed. Then, I tried it with real coffee, fresh brewed, and I had quite a different experience, it taste just like normal cream, maybe not really fresh cream, but it was perfect. I had it 3 days in a row like that, and it was perfect every time. I went back home and tried it with instant coffee again just to see what it would be like, and the answer is that it was definitely the instant coffee, it was the same as the first time I tried it. If you use this with an instant coffee, use it with a high quality one, mine was not, and it effected the flavor of the cream. As others have stated, it works best for mixing if you initially mix it in a small amount of liquid(preferably hot) before incorporating with your whole batch of anything. You don't need to make a paste, but about 4 parts water to 1 part cream should be good for mixing initially. I will definitely be ordering this again for use while traveling with my coffee, I am very impressed with it, and I plan on trying some of this companies other stuff as well, I am excited to do so, I hope they are as good as this cream. • Convenient and shelf stable way to have a half and half substitute on hand!
Style: Heavy Cream
I don't drink milk much. It's not that I don't like milk, I just never reach for it to drink. I'll put whole milk on my cereal, but I don't ever put it in a glass to drink. Whole milk seems a little thick to just drink, and low fat and skim milk both taste watery to me. Cream on the other hand, I "drink" daily! Not by the glass, mind you...but always in my coffee. Hot or iced, my coffee has to have rich thick cream in it! My hands down favorite is whipping cream in my coffee. Not to be confused with he whipped cream in the aerosol cans that empty out it's entire contents quite nicely on a lovely slice of fresh strawberry pie, but the whipping cream you find in little jugs and cartons in the refrigerated dairy case in your favorite grocery store. Give it a good shake, and pour it into your coffee. That's my jam! The next best thing for me is shipping cream in a shelf stable carton that is the real stuff that can miraculously sit on a pantry shelf unopened for months. I usually get this at my favorite specialty store that sounds similar to Jader Troes. So what does this have to do with Hoosier Hill Farm Heavy Cream Powder? Hoosier Hill Cream Powder is shelf stable AND can go everywhere I do. In its dry state, can sit in the pantry for a looong time, can sit in your desk drawer, in your camping and hiking gear, on your boat or plane...I take a tiny plastic container of the powder when I travel, so that I can always have real half and half wherever I go. Believe me, hotel room coffee is soooo much better thanks to Hoosier Farm Heavy Cream Powder! How to use it: it's a powder. Obvious perhaps, but true. So when you put this into any liquid (hot or cold) it may clump. Not the end of the world, it not ideal either. The best thing to do is make a slurry. Assuming if you're using this powder, you're not trapped in a Michelin starred kitchen in Paris! When I'm in a hotel room, I pour half a bottle of water into my paper coffee cup and start with 3 tablespoons of powder. I stir with a spoon and keep adding powder and tasting until it resembles the taste and texture of somewhere between half and half and whipping cream. I then use a handheld frother. What? Yep- sold online here or in many big box stores. It's a very cute little stick blender like tool that stirs and froths stuff better that your spoon ever could. I paid $2.00 for mine. This result is a very very passable heavy cream for coffee. And the taste of this stuff is pretty darn close to my favorite whipping cream. I also use this to help the mouthfeel of smoothies, and to ease the gritty feel you sometimes get from protein powders. Just add it to your drink! Made thinner, this Cream Powder also makes a good milk substitute. And it is faaaar better tasting than those instant milk powders you can find in the box in the cereal aisle. As an aside, this is a good thing to have in an emergency kit for natural and human caused disasters. It can add nutrition and can flavor a number of dishes, such as chicken ala king and fettuccine, could soothe a crying child, and it sure is gold when you're looking for cream for your coffee and can't get out to the grocery store! ... show more

  • great product to use when you are out of the real stuff

I like having this on hand in case I need some heavy cream but don't have any. The taste is good and it blends easily.

  • Great for cooking
Style: Heavy Cream
I cook a lot but I also travel a lot as well. If I buy a carton of cream it will go bad by the time I think to use it. I’ve used this in baking and cooking, it turns out perfectly especially in pasta dishes.

  • They changed the ingredients
Style: Heavy Cream
I bought this twice. The first time, the ingredient list was simple: sweet cream solids. The second time I ordered, the package had changed, but I neglected to check the ingredients. The new package listed "cream, dry milk" and some vitamins. It didn't taste the same. It's okay and still comparable to other brands in ingredients (the reason I didn't give it less than 3 stars); but I chose this brand (more expensive) originally because it was ONLY made from sweet cream. Disappointing. Haven't decided whether to buy it again or not. ... show more
