I don't know what all the negative reviews are about but my shelving unit has been grrreat for storing boxes and boxes and boxes of heavy vinyl records. And I even added a shelf sold by Honey-Can-Do to store even more on it. As for installation, this model follows pretty much the industry standard where the shelves rest on a plastic clip that binds to a groove in the pole. It might be somewhat difficult to assemble this kind of shelving the first go-round, but the second time and after that is a cinch. The only very slight downside is the unit can be a bit wobbly if placed on medium or high pile carpet. I have mine on a medium pile, but really, it only seems wobbly if I seriously tug on it. ... show more

If you look at the picture I have here that has a red arrow and a blue arrow, you can see how the shelves are put together. The red arrow is the shelf, and the blue arrow is the clip. See how the shelf is over most of the clip. The clips are not meant to close completely until the shelf is put over them. The pressure from the shelf is what makes these the clips close. This makes the shelves very sturdy. Put a clip on all 4 poles at the desired height, and gently bring the shelf down over the clips. If your shelf pole holes are too narrow to go over the clips, then your shelf is upside down. If you look closely at the shelves you will notice that the pole holes narrow. This will tell you which side is top and which is bottom. Do not let the shelf just drop. It will knock all the clips off. Gently lower it, and be sure to get it over each of the 4 clips. Since some other customers left bad reviews solely because they didn't follow the instructions and ended up not putting the shelving together correctly, I am giving these extended instructions here. This is the 2nd HoneyCanDo shelf unit I bought (other a couple weeks ago was 3-tier, 14" deep), and I ignored all these negative reviews and am glad I did so. Each and every part in the box was excellent quality, came with the usual extra pair of black connectors halves that the shelf slips over, and all the connecting screws between poles were fine. Both shelf units I have bought now were super easy to assemble, kinda fun too, and very nice looking. Chrome both times. I also bought the accessory hook for $8 and the caster wheels for this model. The wheels are due for delivery in a few hours. I'll come back and edit this after I get them attached. I think I might buy this same shelf again because I'm enjoying organizing and can always find stuff to move onto a shelf and make things more neat. FWI - I read elsewhere from a reviewer that although the products look identical (Seville and HoneCanDo) the parts are NOT interchangeable. He tried and reported thus. - - - - - - - Caster Wheels - great! Be sure to find a wrench that comes with them. They are heavy duty and excellent quality. 'Glad I got them. ... show more

I have a serious lack of storage space/closets and this little "honey" was just the solution. Easy to put together, easy to move(I added the castor wheels) and the black color blended in perfectly. Will probably be buying another unit!!

This is the worst shelf I've ever had the displeasure of trying to put together. In theory it seems like it would be a 2 minute project, but I've given up after an hour. First, let me say that right out of the box, the plastic "foot" that you screw into the bottom of the legs popped off. It doesn't just pop back on, it looks like the screw was supposed to be glued to the plastic, so right now there is a flat headed screw (best way I can describe it) acting as the 4th foot so it is slightly wobbly. Then, the shelves are intended to be adjustable, so they give you these plastic "clips" to place where you want to place the shelf. There are two pieces for each leg that are supposed to clip together. Only they barely do, so if you bump it just slightly, the two pieces pop apart, and you have to put them back on. So you have to very carefully feed the legs in, one bump and the clips fall. This next part is not completely the fault of the shelf, but gives an example of how impractical this method of securing the shelf is - if you have uneven floors (I can't be the only person) then you have to move the clips of the uneven side exactly just right to fit in the hole of the shelf, or again, the clips will pop off. Then, once you have the shelf in place, God forbid you decide you wan to slide something UNDER the shelf, because if that item accidentally bumps the shelf, the shelf will move, because the shelf is not secured in place by these "clips", it is just resting on the clips. You cant try to move the item by pulling on the shelf, or it will come up. I've been working on this shelf for an hour. Seriously. I will take ownership that I'm trying to build it in a closet, so part of my difficulty is the tight space, but a big part of the difficulty is the design of the shelf. These clips are so stupid. The metal part of the shelf is sturdy, but using this kind of system to put the shelf in place makes the shelf far less of a sturdy item, in my opinion. What is one of the plastic clips cracks and falls away? that side if the shelf will slide down the leg... Before sending this, I cooled down and went over to try to work with it again, thinking maybe I was being unreasonable. Nope. I don't see how anyone could ever consider this sturdy or practical. I hate this item. I regret purchasing it. I will look into another brand, being careful to pay attention to how the shelves are secured to the legs. ... show more
