  • The Gold Standard....and the QUIETEST gen you can buy!
For my travel trailer, this is perfect. Why? 1) weighs just 30#. Those 2000-2200 Hondas weigh over 50#! Too much for my back. 2) Quietest gen on the market. Even under load. Makes for happy neighbors, rangers, and camp hosts. 3) Can operate everything in my trailer that the 2000/2200 can- except the microwave and that's fine with me. 4) Well made and reliable. Large nationwide network of service centers if needed...NOT an oddball orphan. The well-known Gold Standard of small generators. 'Nuff said! Yes...it costs a LOT more. But you know that. Just wish this had a fuel shut-off to allow burning out of the fuel...instead, you have to drain it. ... show more

  • Honda Generators Are ALWAYS The Best.
Honda generators are unbeatable, most reliable, worth every penny. If you can afford, ALWAYS buy the Honda! We have some at work for the carpenters, and a 7000i for the house as the main back up. This little one is for any small emergency. Wanted the 2000i but they are out of stock for a few months... ... show more

  • Defective unit. Intermittent stutter or misfire. Defective unit. Intermittent stutter or misfire.
Just opened the box which was apparently undamaged, flipped through the user manual, and filled it with motorcycle oil I had around leftover from an oil change. Put some gas in, Choked it, and pulled about 10 times on the cord and it started up. Plugged it into the airstream and turned on all kinds of stuff; stereo, heater, roof AC, refrigerator... seems like it's going to work just fine for what I need it for. I took a lot of time to deliberate with this decision and have owned generators and am familiar with how they work. Decided to go with this one instead of the 2000 for economic purposes. It's been open for about an hour but right now I'm happy with the decision to go with the smaller one. Even though I don't expect it to be able to run the AC, Microwave, and other things simultaneously, I really don't think that will happen much and I'm capable of regulating use of those things and can adapt. It's light. Simple. Looks pretty sexy though so I can see how someone would want to steal it so I'll start looking into a way to attach a bike chain to it and to the airstream or to the pickup. Pretty happy so far. If I have any issues with it I'll come back and revise my review. I bought mine for $699 including shipping. Edit: disappointed after a few uses as the unit has a clear intermittent stutter or misfire. Was going to send it back but never did. Now 9 months later it has probably died for no reason about 500 times... of all the pieces of crap I've owned I don't know if I have ever wanted to throw something into a dumpster so bad. I'm mechanically inclined, changed oil numerous times, broke in properly, used good gas.. this thing is just a lemon. ... show more

  • Mixed performance
I bought this so that I could recharge batteries while in Zion National Park South Campground. I already had a 2200i and 2200i companion. I bought this thinking I would make less noise. Zion only allows two hours in the morning and two hours at night for charging. I wanted the most quiet generator possible so I bought this one to use instead of my EU 2200i. I had two problems. First, when the trailer batteries are low in charge, they pull a lot of juice when charging (this was from the WATCO Power Center on my Lance 2185). This combined with use of lights, water, pump, etc. and the TV was too much for the generator to handle and it would shut down. I could not run the microwave or a hair dryer, which is to be expected. Second, this unit is definitely the most quiet, when on idle, but when a load is on it, it gets pretty loud. I found it was better to run my 2200i. Though not as quiet on idle, it didn't have to work so hard when a load was put on it, thus made less noise than the 1000i. I also found that people running the Champion 3400-watt dual fuel across the way made about the same amount of noise as I did with my generator(s). Granted the noise is different, so i suppose it's what annoys you. With the Champion dual fuel, you don't need any gasoline. Down side is that the unit weighs nearly 100 lbs. I chose the Honda 2000i and the 2000i companion so that I could move it around by myself without throwing out my back or having to get help from the SO. I'm 58 now, but am looking toward the future when I won't have the strength to move around a 100 lbs on my own. So now I have the Honda 1000i, 2200i and 2000i companion. I sometimes wished I had bought the champion. I'm going to do some more experimenting with using this 1000i to charge my batteries and find out why it was overloading the generator. ... show more

  • Can't go wrong.
Great little generator, super quiet, the size of a small suitcase. This is my second one, the first survived a lot of extreme use in dusty deserts. I had it tuned up a couple time but the corrosion was the end of it but a very satisfied 12 years of use and the price has barely risen. I also own a 2000i for bigger jobs. Don't get the cheapest generator at Harbor Freight. It won't last and it will be so noisy anyone near you will hate you when you turn it on. ... show more

  • Good quality item. I love it.
Good deal. Be careful when filling with oil. If you follow the instructions literally you will over fill. I did and it wouldn't crank. By the time I figured out the problem and filled properly it wouldn't crank cause oil was all up in the head. Googled the problem, followed posted instructions, finally got it to crank. Once cranked it runs good. Used it all last football season for tailgating and it ran perfectly. ... show more

  • with an easy start, and protective vapor lock to secure fuel ...
This generator is definitely quiet. Most people don't' hear it going by our RV until they are beside our unit. At 29lbs, with an easy start, and protective vapor lock to secure fuel vapor when not operating what not to like. Ive also use the Honda for night ligting, running power equipment and providing a jump for a dead battery. Very good value and as advertised. ... show more
