Husband here. These shelving units are relatively sturdy, attractive, and very easy to assemble. They are suitable for your garage and also your office or other places in your home. Now I wouldn’t throw heavy bags of fertilizer or a huge box of heavy bolts on them, as you will probably bend something or smash a shelf. The shelves are fine for light or medium weight stuff. I wouldn’t believe that 500-plus pounds per shelf marketing. Yes, the shelves are thin, but I figure if some warp over time I can easily cut some thicker ones. For assembly you could probably ignore the instructions. I do recommend that you watch one video and a short section of another before doing any assembly. Go to YouTube and search for “homedant z-beam assembly instructions.” Select and watch the video that is 4:57 long. (You can mute the audio as it is only music.) I watched it twice; the second time pausing it here and there to study individual video frames. Then select the 3:19 video for assembling the z-beam. The first method for installing the z-beam is confusing so I suggest you click “more” under the video to show the chapter links. Then click on “The other way of Combine the Z-Beam” at 1:02 and watch only that. (Yeah, they didn’t run the translations by a native English speaker.) If you have a rubber mallet, it may come in handy from time to time, but not required. I could add only a few things. My shelves were white on one side and wood grain on the other. Just make sure the top and front edge of the shelves match. Second, if you are putting a couple of shelves close together, put the shelves in as you go; don’t wait until last. And also keep in mind you can only use the z-beam for the basic shelf installation. I do wish you could buy additional z-beams so you could install two under one shelf without leaving another shelf with none. Also, I would like to buy additional snap-on hooks that you hang stuff from. ... show more

I bought two of these shelving racks for my art studio and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the materials and great design which makes for easy breezy assembly. It was able to put them together all by myself. They look very nice and all components are well finished. Even the shelf design gives you the option to leave visible a white or a wood colored finish! The unit comes with all the necessary hardware to stabilize it and is super stable after assembly. I later had the need for a third one and (impatient me) didn’t want to wait for it to come through the mail. So I bought a similar shelving unit at Home Depot. What a disappointment! It was a nightmare to assemble without assistance, the thing kept moving and falling apart during the process and the materials look very cheap and raw. At first I was daunted when I opened 1 of 3 boxes. So many parts and the instructions seemed overwhelming. But after the first unit I came around to realized they are well engineered, high quality, and very easy to assemble. The metal is just the right strength for the consumer garage. The size is nice and wide and perfectly deep. The ability to arrange them in regular shelf or basket, etc is pretty awesome. The engineering is well thought out and makes for both a quality, durable shelf, and a product that is easy to put together. The "wood" shelf seems the perfect material when placed on the shelf and has things/stuff on it. However, it needs to come with more of what they call "j" hooks without their branding. Each box had one, just one. If the company put 6 for each shelf, without their tacky branding, and made them metal instead of plastic, that would really be a value add. Also, each box should come with two metal retainers to join two or more shelves together as a unit. That way each side is covered twice, one at the top and one at the bottom on BOTH sides. Plus if you order 3 shelves, you can't join them with two 'joiners'. If you have more than one shelf you probably know what I mean. Overall, very much recommend to fellow consumers. 47.7"W x 24.1"D x 71.3"H. I have had 2 of these shelving units for a month now in my basement for camping bins and other storage items. They do vary in price between $188-208. I specifically wanted 24” depth shelves to accommodate storage tubs and wanted to avoid placing my tubs sideways which takes up an entire shelf instead of length wise for max storage space. I looked at similar shelving options at Costco Amazon etc but the shelf depth was a limiting factor. I was being picky but if you already own what you want to store, it’s worth measuring shapes because storing sideways tubs takes up significantly more shelf space. The packages were heavy for me alone but once they were moved, I was able to assemble them alone. Easier with two people but not necessary. Make sure the posts are set with upside down pyramid holes I used a rubber mallet to secure the shelving. Great purchase overall. Some immaterial corner damage noticed on shelving but no issues. ... show more
