I know this is for pressing Kydex holsters and sheaths, but I made a leather holster for a friend of mine and wanted to pressure mold the leather to the revolver for better retention. I used 8-9 ounce vegetable tanned leather and it was backed with a 4-5 ounce chrome tanned liner. I basket stamped the front face and hand stitched it together. I had oil died the outer leather before molding it (but it can still take water on for molding), and placed the cellophane wrapped revolver inside the holster. It is a stainless steel piece, so I wasn't worried about rusting. I fashioned a very simple homemade press out of two pieces of scrap 3/4" MDF and five woodworking clamps. It wasn't pretty, but worked very well. I let it sit about 16 hours in the press and then popped it out (Kydex wouldn't take this long because it is thermoset and only needs to cool - leather needs to dry in the shape you want it which takes much longer). The holster was well formed and conformed to the contours of the revolver nicely. Retention was much improved. As an aside, the detail picked up by the foam from the holster was incredible. The basket weave stamping was picked up in great detail and you could clearly see the impression of every stitch - even the winding of the thread. This tells me that the foam is capable of conforming to a great level of detail and compressing your material in great detail as well. The level of detail you will get in your work piece will only be limited by the thickness and flexibility of the material you are working with. Thanks for offering such a great product.

Extremely versatile and functional. Almost a perfect copy of the tool. I'd suggest a little more than a few layers of painters tape on the tool before forming. Added bonus, you can use this foam to work on isolated spots if you use it with a heat gun. Haven't tried it yet...but a more permanent attachment may be needed to turn this into a tool wedge for comfort.

The media could not be loaded. This is the ideal foam for a Kydex press. I have a DIY press, and previously I used some scraps of foam floor mat tiles. The results were OK but not great. This Xtreme Form arrived in perfect condition, and it was easy to install in my press. Now it's straightforward to achieve an excellent fit and a satisfying "click" for each knife sheath I make.
