  • Purchased my Hofner to be among the legends.
Color: Black
This guitar brand has a rich history and is being used by a great Legend-Paul McCartney. I know in order to be the best; one has to imitate the best. This is a great instrument purchase from the start. I look forward to many days of playing pleasure. Thanks. K.R.

  • I wanted to like it but the neck dive is just too severe for me.
Color: Black
For the money, this bass plays well and sounds good. I took delivery of one, gave it a quick truss rod and action adjustment, and for $200 sounded completely respectable. I could have gotten through a 4-hour continuous job with this if I had to. I wanted one because they are light and can fit in an overhead compartment on a plane. I don't like bringing a nice bass when I fly -- I want to travel with one that can get destroyed and I won't be all that upset. But when I had it set up and ready to play, even with a suede strap for the roughness against my shirt, the body of the bass couldn't even begin to counteract the neck dive. I have a much heavier bass for these kinds of situations and I'll keep using it for now. ... show more

  • Travel size indeed
Color: Black
I am a truck driver. My space is at a premium in the truck. This thing couples with the nux mighty air is the perfect combo to just slip into the sleeper. It's compact size allows me to tinker around anywhere. I don't have to share my bunk with a log. And the sound is plenty good enough to practice in the sleeper. ... show more

  • Awesome Little Guy!
Color: Black
I love this little guy! It was perfect for me as a beginner to take on my trip for practicing... in fact, it was much better than I expected. I was able to lug this all around the airport with ease; just right out of the box from Amazon, I placed it in its soft case and buckled it around my rollaway carryon and took it on my trip to ATL from SFO - fit right in the overhead compartment on the plane (it did help that I was on First Class), I just had to make sure people didn't slam their bags on top of the neck - that did almost happen. It is very sturdy though - nice maple neck and sleek little body. Overall, it has a decent tone... I bought that tiny little Honeytone amp, though for travel and with a decent pair of head phones, it wasn't bad! However, I couldn't stand it out of the mini amp, I couldn't get it to sound good enough that way. But for travel, that worked well enough. I'll change out the strings soon, as the E string already has a nick in it and they seem pretty cheap, but it held up well for the duration I needed it and would definitely recommend to anyone needing a travel bass to have for trips, at the office, or just to keep handy in another room... ... show more

  • but great, if not ideal little carry-on / carry-around practice ...
Color: Black
Not ideal for a performance or primary instrument, but great, if not ideal little carry-on / carry-around practice bass. Just under 38 in long in the bag and only about 10 in wide at the body. Awkward to play without a strap, but with one, very comfortable and well balanced. Is comfortable even in cramped spaces, like in a car or on a sofa where a standard bass would be awkward or impossible. Excellent construction for this price point. Near full size scale, comparable to a 34in scale in feel. Good, bright but basic sound when plugged into an amp. The passive pickups are a little weak but clear. I needed to adjust intonation and action when it arrived, but that was very easy, and it tuned up accurately and precisely in about 15 min. Solid durable and attractive construction. Good round wound strings, and keeps its tune well. A great little practice instrument I take with me most of the time so I can practice when I find a few minutes to kill. I got the white version and it looks very nice! What more would you want in a travel/carry practice bass at this price point? I can't think of any. Oh, and above all it's very fun to play! ... show more

  • Fun travel bass guitar
Color: Black
I started playing bass a few years ago with a regular acoustic bass guitar. I really enjoyed playing it but I travel a lot for work and had so much down time. So I did some research and found this Hofner; I decided to take a chance and I'm really glad I did. It's light and comes with a gig bag that has a shoulder strap, so it's easier to take around. It sounds great; it does tend to go out of tune easily, but that happens with new strings. the only complaint is that it is hard to balance. I put on a guitar strap, but even so the balance is never "quite right". But you can simply sit down with it (easier to play) or just offset the balance while you're holding it. Other than that, I would recommend this to anyone who loves to play bass. ... show more

  • Needs a thumb rest
Color: Black
I found it cumbersome to play finger-style given thereโ€™s no place to naturally rest your thumb. This is easy to fix by purchasing and installing a thumb rest. Other than that, great little travel bass for the price.

  • Good for guitarists wanting to play bass.
Color: Black
Good for its price. It is a short scale bass so you need to adjust your playing quite a lot. Having said that, the fret spacing is very similar to a regular 6 string guitar so it can actually work well for guitar players who want to play bass once in a while. The light weight is also a plus, at the expense of tone and sustain of a regular bass. But this is a travel guitar after all, and may be ideal for practice or a unplanned jamming session, but may be a bit lacking for a full pledge gig. You can also find it cheaper in other places and even if you are a Prime member who enjoy free shipping, the lower cost plus shipping is still cheaper that if you buy it from Amazon. ... show more
