  • Masterpiece Fender Acoustic, Not your average beginner acoustic bass
Stunning master piece Fender acoustic bass, in appearance, sound quality, touch and feel, playability and more. Always complimented. Exceptional build in sound pickup and controls. Included very nice padded carry bag. Could not be happier with this and definently worth the price difference. The Fender Kingman is overkill for a new beginner but if you can afford to make this jump immediately it's truly a work of art. Highly recommend all things Fender. ... show more

  • The only acoustic bass I don't hate
It's a dang jazz bass neck on an acoustic body. Perfect for me, a jazz bass player. Loud, great electronics. Tough bag

  • Comfortable to play, good tone.
These days whether are gigs call for all acoustics or just a set I wanted an acoustic bass I feel comfortable playing the entire show. My concert bass is big and has good tone but I dred playing it more then a set. I looked at and played alot of acoustic basses even the mini' basses but the sound and look wasnt for me. No one near me had this bass on the shelf (Guitar Center/Sam Ash) I don't like ordering a guitar online but I didn't want to wait a month. GearNuts double boxed and packed it correctly it arrived in perfect condition. This fender has the thinnest neck in its class and everything I was looking for in an acoustic bass comfortable playing, easy to play and travel up and down the neck, real smooth for those with smaller fingers and once I plugged in and heard the tone I knew I made the right choice. Looks come last on my list...but the black finish is nice. The intonation was SPOT ON and the action was just right no adjustments were needed. Fishman Electronics are on the majority of acoustics but work real well with this bass and you can notch out your mids and shape your tones to taste.. If I had to pick out a flaw I'd say the knobs on the EQ are kind small but once I have my sound set, I dont need to fumble with them anyway. If you're searching for an acoustic bass thats comfortable to play, has great tone and comes with a free gig bag this fender has it all. I can't speak for the other vendors but I would definitely order from GearNuts again. ... show more

  • Fun to play, but temper expectations.
I bought an "open box" Kingman from Amazon. It arrived double boxed, the main box having a big dent in the side, but the guitar and bag were just fine. It is fun to play, but the E and, to a certain extent, the G stings are quieter than the A and D when played through an amp. Acoustically, the E is really quiet if you are playing with other acoustic guitars. This guitar shines as a practice instrument when you want to jam solo or you need to be quiet and don't want to pull out the headphones. After checking a lot of reviews about acoustic bass guitars, all this was expected. I knew what I was getting. The only real gripe I have with my instrument is the buzzing I had with the G string near the heel or 13,14, and 15 frets. There is a hump on the fretboard where it meets the body and this contributed to the 15 fret just creating a high spot there. I filed the fret down a bit and made adjustments to the truss rod to see if that would be enough, but in the end, I replaced the saddle with a spare classical bone one I had. I now have a flat saddle which isn't technically ideal, but it plays just fine and no more buzzing. I also took the time to tape off the fretboard and file the fret ends. I think for $600, there should be a little more care in the factory setup. But if you can get it for $400~$500, I feel it's worth it. ... show more

  • Great bass
I have look for a acoustic bass for some times I put a set of black tape strings on it . I have 7 in all, this will be my best friend for now. I really enjoy playing the Kingman Acoustic, great nick and very light weight.

  • You will NOT regret spending a bit more!
I started on the bass last June (9 months ago) and bought a $99 Best Choice bass and was relatively happy with it. I like the short scale and for the money it was decent. I was about to buy another one from them, but when I took the original bass to get set up before the new one arrived, they pointed out defects and shortcomings I was unaware of. Basically they told me not to waste any money working on it. So I started researching a bit. I was hoping to spend $200-300 tops, but once I started reading reviews and looking at specs, the Fender Kingman was the one. Not only did it have the black color, short scale, and trusted Fender name, I found one from Butler Music (they were great!) as a demo and saved $100! Add the built-in tuner, Fishman electronics, and very nice canvas guitar case, and this was a heckuva deal. It plays great, looks gorgeous, and sounds awesome plugged in or not. This has all the indications of a heirloom quality instrument and I will be playing it on stage for years and years. Don’t be afraid to spend a little more on this bass guitar, you will be happy you did. ... show more
