Features

  • Made from pure silk, a very effective material for removing moisture
  • Absorbent, wicking moisture out of the instrument quickly
  • No lint to get caught in the keys or tone holes
  • Compressible enough to pull through the entire instrument

Description

Hodge Silk Swabs are premium swabs made from pure silk for removing moisture from woodwind instruments after each use. Hodge uses silk because it is absorbent, has no lint, and is compressible. The swabs are large enough to wick the moisture out of the larger part of the bore, but compressible enough to pull through the neck. They pull through the fully assembled instrument. They do not leave lint in the keys. They are not stored inside the instrument so the moisture does not remain. Hodge swabs are regularly recommended by repairmen for optimum care of your instrument. 100% Silk with plastic-coated weight.

  • Works well. Just be a little careful.
As another has said: With a straight soprano sax, hold the sax horizontally on your lap and gently pull the swab through the sax and neck section. Dries it out well.

  • Really good Swab!
I bought this for my soprano sax and like it a lot. I had no idea silk was so absorbent. It works extremely well at drying my sax body and neck. Highly recommend.

  • Great Swab, But Be Careful Using It on a Soprano Sax
After using this swab for awhile, I'm much happier than I was after some scary jams early on. So I'm bumping up my rating from 2 to 4 stars. Truth is, you have to be really careful using any swab on a soprano sax. Things are so tight inside that it's very easy for any swab to get seriously jammed, requiring a trip to your repair person for expert extraction. But silk is the best material for a saxophone swab, and Hodge makes the best of these. JUST BE CAREFUL! I've learned that you have to pay attention--you can't multi-task while swabbing the way you can on alto, tenor, etc. After lowering the weight down the bell, through the body, and out the top, be sure that the swab stays elongated and doesn't bunch up as you pull it through. Hold the sax horizontal so the swab doesn't fall inside all at once. I also hold on to the trailing edge of the swab until it gets well into the bell. Slow and easy does it! If despite being careful you end up with frequent jams, give up on drop-through swabs for soprano and use the pad saver made by H.W.: HWP H-SOP PAD Saver For Soprano Saxophone ... show more

  • Cleans well!
Takes all moisture out of my saxophone, and cleans pads well. Great purchase!

  • Good but to large for the mouthpiece
This worked well for the saxofone neck and body, but the weighted bread is too large for the mouthpiece. Oops! Rookie mistake by the manufacturer.

  • Hasn't gotten stuck yet.
I honestly expected the cloth to get stuck in my one piece straight neck soprano but, thankfully it hasn't so far and I pray it stays that way.
