  • For the most part a good screen for a good price, but can have power problems (updated)
Size: 10.1-inch
This review is for the "HMTECH Raspberry Pi Screen 10.1 Inch Touchscreen Monitor 1024x600" (model HM10.1-RP). For the most part, this is a good deal, as it's a decent sized touch screen for $60. My tests have been mostly positive, in that I will be able to make use of this for other projects, but not for my originally intended project. I was hoping to attach a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W to the back of this and put this to use as a kiosk of sorts. However, since the screen's power input and touch control input are combined through a single micro-USB interface, this is not possible with a Pi Zero computer. When a Pi Zero is connected, the screen will turn off and on every few seconds: It will stay on for maybe 5 to 20 seconds, and then it will turn black (seems to power off) for anywhere from 1 second to maybe 5 seconds, and then it turns on again. This continues indefinitely, which results in this combination of computer and screen being unusable, presumably due to the Pi Zero not passing sufficient amperage through the micro-USB connection to the screen. Tests confirm that a Raspberry Pi 4 (Model B Rev 1.4) does work without any problems. It actually works very well, even with the 5-minute screen timeout powering off the screen and then powering back on again when touched (running Ubuntu 22.04.3). The takeaway is that the screen works well, probably with just about any other types of computers, including Pi 4 computers, but not with Pi Zero computers. If one did not need the touch capability, then the screen could probably be powered by a separate power source, and then it might work as a display for a Pi Zero computer, but that's not my intended use-case. It would be nice if there was a different way to power this screen besides through the micro-USB connection, so that the touch capability could be enabled on a Pi Zero. Updated: I was mistaken about the Pi Zero power to the screen. It turns that using a power supply with higher current (amps) does provide sufficient power for both the Pi Zero computer and the screen through the micro-USB port on the Pi Zero, while still enabling touch screen control over the same micro-USB connection to the screen. I'm using the power supply described as "Argon Micro USB Cable Power Supply 5.25 Volts 3 Amps for Raspberry Pi 3 and Zero Boards". Additionally, the screen blanking in the Raspberry Pi O.S. (set to a default of 10 minutes) does also power off the screen, and then wakes up (powers on) the screen when the screen is touched. ... show more

  • Good from the get go and expandable for my future projects
Size: 10.1-inch
This is a good purchase for the price point. I am always weary and anxious when buying electronics and I prefer the ability to look at items before purchasing them. However, I must point out how well this item came packaged. Every piece was well cushioned and sealed. I also like that they provided a point of contact in case I need further assistance. I connected the screen to the device via HDMI port and powered it up. No drivers were required as listed and performed as stated. The monitor is a good size, and I did not need to do a manual calibration. The touch screen is smooth and accurate and I did not experience any problems with it. I purchased it as a little portable display that I can connect to whatever I need without having to disconnect and reconnect to my large monitor. I used Windows 10 to test it; it works flawlessly over HDMI. Only thing I did notice was the resolution could be a bit better, but I've just began experimenting with it; sure there are tweaks I can do here or there to enhance it. This is ideal for intermediate to professional users, which is what I was looking for. I will be expanding it for other projects, but it meets my current needs as an intermediate user. ... show more

  • Great IPS screen let down by scratches
I got a great deal for the version without a case. Unfortunately the screens were scratched, one so badly I had to return it. The replacement one also had a significant scratch but I kept it feeling like it was still a good value. The IPS screen is beautiful at any angle and came with a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable and a USC-C to USB-A cable. The screen can be powered from the touchscreen port (assuming that USB port on your computer supplies enough power). The screens seem like seconds because of the scratches, perhaps why they are priced so low. It was in a bag and in foam padding so it had to be that way from the factory. If they had just put some protective film on the screen during manufacturing, it would be five stars. If you pay full price for this, you may be disappointed. ... show more

  • Updated 5 star rating customer service is awesome
Size: 10.1-inch
Using this screen with a victron cerbo gx for system control. Screen is great, touch doesn’t seem to work though and when I first unboxed it the ribbon cables to the board were not seated properly so there was intermittent interference and video quality issues Update, after speaking to customer service was able to get the touch functionality working, intermittently, the usb power needs to be connected to one of the data ports not just power. The circuit board mounted to the back of the screen is loosely attached (unable to tighten it better because of how it’s mounted) and it seems the problem is still with the ribbon cables, if held just right it works well, as soon as anything moves touch goes away. Second update. Seller was very helpful and got me all sorted. Everything works great now ... show more

  • Display doesn’t work - can’t even get the on screen display menu
Bought this monitor as a secondary display but no matter what I tried it doesn’t display at all. There is no user manual with the product or online to troubleshoot even. The monitor is powered and I can hear the sound playing (from a Nintendo switch connected to it) but no display. The side button - supposedly for OSD doesn’t even bring the Menu to adjust brightness of the display, if it ever comes up. Sadly, the return window expired so I’m not sure what we’ll do with this. Can the product support team please help? I’d highly appreciate. ... show more

  • Bright Picture Touchscreen Not Working
Size: 10.1-inch
Using this to administer my NAS though its HDMI and USB ports, it connects easily with only two cables that were included (HDMI and USB) it come on and goes immediately to the login screen but the touchscreen seems to do nothing which might be a limitation of my NAS but it does work with other touchscreens. That said and from what I can see due to no navigation, the screen is very clear and bright. Looking for the manual, there is none with only a small printout contain scatter codes for two different manuals, neither being for this device. ... show more

  • Awesome seller, great screen! Awesome seller, great screen!
Size: 10.1-inch
The screen is of good resolution and is very responsive to touch. Latency feels very low, and with even a $100 pc powering it, it feels fast and responsive. I was able to get 2 of the screens working in windows 11 and windows 10 on my mini pc. Both function fully for touch. I use them for media browsing and monitoring my 3d printers. The screen comes without a casing, but there are free files for 3d printable cases online. I printed out cases for the screens to mount and protect them. The seller is very helpful and responsive. I originally bought 1 screen and a Lenovo Thinkcentre to use it with. I had compatibility issues with the Lenovo Thinkcentre, and the seller helped me diagnose the issue. The seller sent a replacement screen during the diagnosis for testing at no charge, and allowed me to keep the replacement screen when we determined the issue. I concluded the interaction with: I am happy with how the screens are performing, they do their job well, and the seller is of great help. I sold my lenovo pc and bought a different, compatible, windows 11 mini pc to keep using the screens because i like them so much. ... show more

  • Works great for the supported OSs, needs more work for others
Size: 10.1-inch
I think this is a great touchscreen option for little projects. It took some work to get it working properly on my Orange PI 5b so I figured I'd detail the problems and solutions I ran into here in case anyone comes across similar issues. Device: Orange PI 5B OS: Debian 11 Firstly, I couldn't get any output via the HDMI cable. I'm not sure why, but I had to switch to a USB-C to HDMI cable. Once I had the proper cable I had to run the following commands. cvt 1024 576 xrandr --newmode "1024x576_60.00" 46.50 1024 1064 1160 1296 576 579 584 599 -hsync +vsync xrandr --addmode DP-1 "1024x576_60.00" xrandr --output DP-1 --mode "1024x576_60.00" After that I had to create a file, resolution_script.sh and copy the above commands into the file. Once I had that file saved, I created a cronjob that runs that script on startup and everything works as it should. If the commands didn't work for you, you can look into the xrandr page on the arch linux wiki under the section Adding undetected resolutions. ... show more
