  • Fun Cards but HEAVY Ink or Manufacturing Smell
Fun cards, but they do possess a very intensely heavy ink or manufacturing smell that amazingly shows no signs at all of dissipation. Perfume's next, I guess? But 5 Stars for the fun even though these cards literally "stink".

  • Gambling Routines or Fortune Telling For Entertainment...These are Great!
These are wonderful replicas of an era gone by and they fit well into my entertainment routine involving Card Readings and/or Fortune Telling. They appear to be 'old' and after a while they really will be 'used' and these cards will serve me well as adding to the 'spirit' of the moment using these cards as an intriguing prop. I am sure in the right hands of anyone skilled in Card Magic or providing demonstrations Gambling Routines, of an late 1800's card player, these would fulfill a comparable purpose. Wonderful cards, good stock, easy to handle and they look the part they are intended to play for my purposes. Otherwise they are a set of 'intriguing cards' with an interesting history which is provided within the card box. The deck is a conversation piece at the very least and would be welcomed in any card game or event. ... show more

  • Novelty cards, cool from afar but average up front
These replica cards are digitized and process-printed on fairly average but serviceable card material. The relatively thin tuck box is printed the same way, and the tax stamp, while a nice touch, is also digitally printed, merged into the box graphic. If you want something with an antique-esque feeling for public re-enactment or a camera shot, these will do. If you want something that feels or looks authentic up close, these aren’t what you’re looking for. That said, they’re a basically good deck of cards for play (a challenge given period materials weren’t always that great to handle), but don’t expect them to compare with most conventional modern decks in terms of pliability, handling or surface feel. That said, they’re something different from the mainstream card art you can find everywhere. Cool points awarded for ability to start a conversation. ... show more

  • Great modernized reproduction
These are exactly what I wanted for an old western role play session of poker. They are plastic/wax coated so they fan out and shuffle like modern cards. Look authentic and hand stamped/printed. The corners are very sharp but that's also part of the appeal, although I'm worried that overtime these will fluff up, we'll see. After 2 months they've remained perfect and I shuffle them and play with them a lot. You might not like these if you want a true reproduction/authentic deck of cards as they didn't coat cards in those times, but as a personal stickler for recreating things, these still work for me. It's old fashioned with the modernization we've come to take for granted as a society. *As a heads up, the pattern on the back it not reversible. If you want the backings to always look clean and uniform when fanning or displaying, be sure to properly orient the deck halves before shuffling. Doing this will make card tricks look much nicer, but also can be used as a "tell" for personal card pushing when doing reveals. ... show more

  • Great repoduction deck!
This was bought as a birthday gift for a friend who is into Civil War memorabilia and this was a hit. They were very impressed with the quality of the cards, the "hand-painted" look to the cards, a card with facts about the deck and even the "tax stamp". This deck does NOT have Joker cards, as apparently they were not included in these kinds of decks. I definitely recommend this to anyone who collects gambling, Civil War, or just playing cards collectibles in general. ... show more

  • Poker Cards Highlander - there's a catch
Highlander's 1864 Poker Cards are excellent & durable quality. I really like them, but they suck for playing most games. People need a letter or number designation on the face of the card to play (cribbage). When fanned out in a hand, you can't tell what you're holding. I tried to use them for cribbage, but nobody would even try them out. These handle & shuffle as well as any quality card that I've ever played with. Would be great for magic, tarot, display, or patient brainiacs. ... show more

  • Old world charm
I love the old world charm of these cards! Their looks are on the primitive side. There are no numbers, just symbols and pictures for the face cards. Some of the card suits look like they are stamped, and on the face cards, not all of the colors line up with the others. But I think it adds to their charm. So if misalignment or perfection are an issues for you, these cards aren't for you. If your just looking for a fun, functional deck for playing or divination, these are perfect. ... show more
