  • New SSD Speed/Life for Mac Pro Tower 4,1/5,1 Models!!! Mojave and Win 10 can Boot From this UNIT!
Style: PCIe 3.0 x16 Size: 4-Port M.2 SSD7101-A
When Apple's Mojave macOS included an upgrade to the Firmware/ROM BIOS of my Mac Pro 5,1 (with this Firmware/BIOS upgrade, my Mac Pro 5,1 Model now has a Boot ROM Version of 140.0.0.0.0 instead of High Sierra's Boot ROM Version of 138.0.0.0.0), this allowed my Mac Pro's motherboard to use NVMe SSDs on 1st Gen Mac Pros where this was not possible under High Sierra and all other previous macOS versions. Then, even though High Point makes it clear that their SSD7101A-1 device was never designed or tested to boot anything, when one of their SSD7101A-1 devices is equipped with a Samsung 970 Pro NVMe SSD (1TB), is then installed in PCIe 2 slot three in my Mac Pro and my previous Mojave 10.14.2 boot SSD image is restored onto the 970 Pro NVMe SSD with Time Machine, guess what? With no High Point driver or other software added of any kind, my Mac Pro 5,1 boots Mojave 10.14.2 just fine! Bifurcation problems? Nope. Please see the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test results attached. I believe that this is just wonderful (although High Point's technical support folks still insist that their SSD7101A-1 device is a RAID device only and cannot be used to boot anything). Note that only Apple's newest iMac Pro can get similar speeds on a boot SSD, but in order to do that, Apple uses a proprietary Samsung NVMe SSD on a special motherboard. Just to be clear: My Mac Pro 5,1 can now boot Mojave from a 970 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD with R/W speeds near 3k MB/s and it also boot Win 10 Pro from another 970 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD with the same R/W speeds. Both of these 970 Pros are mounted on this High Point device in slots 1 (top) and 2 (second from top) with no other software or drivers. Now what do I do with the other two M.2 NVMe blade slots? Thank you High Point (and Apple)! ... show more

  • The SSD7101A is a Bootable Quad M. 2 PCIe ...
Style: PCIe 3.0 x16 Size: 4-Port M.2 SSD7101-A
Mac Pro users - The SSD7101A is a Bootable Quad M.2 PCIe AHCI / NVMe SSD adapter that can be used in a the Apple Mac Pro from 2008, 2009-2012, 'Out of the box', the SSD7101A delivers 3000 MB/S reads/writes using an x16 slot PCIe 2.0 Slot @ 2.5 GT/s. whether using one SSD at a time or in RAID 0. • Is not compabile with listed motherboards or software and support is virtually non-existant
Style: PCIe 3.0 x16 Size: 4-Port M.2 SSD7101-A
I purchased this product after viewing their motherboard compatibility list (my mb was listed) an the driver files to ensure OS compatibility. After installing the card the drivers allowing the card to run as anything but a pcie riser card (asus has one for $60) I attempted to contact support. Support is only available via a ticket system and after waiting 49 hours I got a short reply saying try a new driver. The new driver file did not contain any instructions and after 30m of debugging was for a kernel so old that my motherboard wouldn't even function. I give it 2 stars only for the fact the card shows the drives in the OS but well what good is a $400 raid card that can't configure raid and runs drives 30% slower than connected to the mb... I will most likely be returning this card as I don't feel I'm going to get adequate support to get this card working as advertised anytime soon. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY THIS! Card does not work. Service does not start Customer service is useless.
Style: PCIe 3.0 x16 Size: 4-Port M.2 SSD7103
The card seems to run, but the management GUI doesn't connect no matter what. Forums are useless and Highpoint's own site is as well. They constantly refer to "contact support". I challenge anyone to find or actually contact their support dept. Links on the website loop you into a dead end of documentation leading down a rabbit hole which has an end user running their debug tool and then send results to their support. Once again, I challenge anyone to find their contact info. If you add or remove any SSDs on the card, the GUI stops working and you have to uninstall and reinstall the GUI program - I am not making this up. If you change the slot the card is in, you have to completely remove BOTH the driver and the GUI and re-install everything. This card is a HUGE PITA! If you buy this card - GOOD LUCK! You're going to need it. ... show more

  • the SSD7101A-1 is the best M. 2 RAID card on the market
Style: PCIe 3.0 x16 Size: 4-Port M.2 SSD7101-A
In my opinion, the SSD7101A-1 is the best M.2 RAID card on the market. Primarily, I use this as workspace for rendering projects. It has proven to be a great investment and has seriously cut down production time. While performing multiple tests with Samsung 970 EVO’s I was able to repeatedly document numbers in the range of 13,000 MB/s. Real world use is unbelievable – it’s amazing how fast this card is for the price. I should add, the card also works with Kingston drives and likely any other NVMe drive currently available - it is not limited to Samsung. Some may be confused by some of the ads/marketing released for this controller (it does not include SSD’s like the rSSD versions). Also, the card is not bootable. It is designed for high performance apps, rather than to support a system’s boot drive. Honestly, this kind of speed would be wasted on something so basic. A single onboard NVMe drive or even SATA SSD would be a better option for booting the OS. One thing you will have to look out for is the need to have 16 lanes available for the maximum performance. You will need a system/motherboard capable of reserving 16x lanes just for this card, otherwise you will seriously handicap the speed. No worries if you aren’t a major DIYer - the included RAID software has an easy method of checking if you are connected to a x16 slot, or not. ... show more

  • Powerful NVMe Controller for 2009-2012 Mac Pros
Style: PCIe 3.0 x16 Size: 4-Port M.2 SSD7101-A
The High Point SSD8101A-1 NVMe Raid Controller is the best disk speed provider you can get in a Mac Pro 2009-2012. You can Boot your OS from 1 NVMe and then use the other 3 NVMe as a raid for super fast disk speed and fast transfers. My only complaint from this device is that the fan does make a little noise when it is operating. A better heat-sink from the manufacturer would have avoided this problem. ... show more
