These curtains are well made and they do lock out the light. My window faces east and these curtains did block the sunlight. You can tell the sun came up but the room remains darkened enough. The only thing is that they have a strong chemical smell at first, but give it a day or two and the smell dissipates. These are beautiful, soft, luxurious curtains. However, I bought them because they said "blackout." As you can see from the picture, that is not a blackout curtain. I really hate to return these, but they're not what I need.
