My feet run from an eight to an 8 and 1/2 and buying shoes online this becomes a problem. I'll get an eight and it'll be too small so the next time I'll get an eight and a half and it's too big. And that's where I'm at with most boots. I would wear an 8 and 1/2 so I thought it would go with that size and they are very big. You definitely can wear a very thick sock with them at this rate. There's not like a lot of padding but the sole is very thick. With that said, I can definitely put in an insole even though I hate doing that with my shoes. Even pulling on the laces it doesn't tighten it enough to make my foot feel completely secure unless I do put in an insole. They're very nice color and I do love the purple laces it compliments each other rather well. They say they're waterproof and I think I could probably feel that as they're just one complete seam except for the tongue. They do make my feet look big but if I am on a hike or in the mud or whatever, I guess that really doesn't matter. I do love the thick sole on them and also the contrasting colors. If you're looking for a good pair of hiking boots, I can really recommend these as they do feel quite comfortable. They just feel like there's a lot of space in there. The price isn't too bad given the fact of inflation. Let's just hope they stand the test this time and they are durable. If I have anything negative that comes up over time of wearing them, I'll come back and update. Otherwise I say go ahead and try them. ... show more

1st impression are great. Outsole are thick and sturdy. The insoles are ortholite which provides a nice cushion and support. I've only taken it out once, only a semi rocky hiking trail. It gave me nice traction and kept my foot comfortable. My only gripe is that it may run half a size bigger atleast it feels like it to me. ... show more

Sizing is about 1/2 size bigger than expected, so thicker socks are needed for comfortable fit -- perhaps that was by design? These boots are super rugged and have great traction, and my wife just did a 10 mile hike in them last weekend -- no blisters, no soreness.

For reference, I typically wears size 7 (and sometimes 6 ½) shoes on my narrow feet. I ordered these in size 7 in the color “Medium Grey.” I picked this color mostly because I’m a fan of purple, and though I was worried about the grey tone, which looks almost like a mossy green in the product images, I was pleased to see that it is actually a pure grey color in person, so I’d say these look much better than I had anticipated. On my narrow feet, these are rather roomy, so this is one of the cases where I might have benefited from sizing down to a 6 ½, but they’re still totally wearable and comfortable. And while they are comfortable, they’ll still have to be broken in, as I can feel spots that would obviously blister if I tried to take a long hike without first doing so. When last I went hiking with my husband, I was unable to traverse certain obstacles due to owning only inappropriate footwear coupled with my terrible balance. These shoes remedy at least part of that equation, so I now feel more confident trekking across more challenging terrain since they are able to grip fantastically to such non-uniform terrain, which is exactly perfect! Upon my novice examination, these seem extremely well-made and durable. Nothing about them seems cheap, down to the very shoebox, which is definitely a keeper for me. The fact that these are advertised to be waterproof was what finalized my decision to order them, so I’m happy for that feature, though I haven’t had any opportunity to determine how accurate that claim is. Overall, I’m pleased with these and would recommend sizing down one half size, at least if you have narrow feet. ... show more

I took these hikers on a challenging 4-mile introduction and I’m impressed - HI-TEC Skamania Mid Hiking Boots - 8.5 - Dark Grey/Navy Blue. My top three needs are comfort, stability, and traction. These ace all three. The fit is to size but generous, there’s plenty of room for thick socks. They are comfortable - I did four miles, shoes right out of the box, and felt no rubbing or chafing. I have slightly wide feet but felt no restrictions. Traction is good too, I really put them to the test - the trail was steep, lots of loose dirt, lots of ruts. My steps were stable, balanced. I live in a very warm (hot) climate, hike multiple times a week, and usually reach for trail runners, however in late winter the trails get dry and tricky. Today, wearing these hikers, I noticed a huge improvement in stability, even rocky and sandy creek beds were no issue. The synthetic and mesh uppers offer flexibility and breathability so should handle higher temps as well as winter cold. They are striking in design, a dark grey and blue color combo. HI-TEC sports has a nearly 50-year history with roots in the US and England, headquarters are in the Netherlands. Add: I was so excited with my first hike, I did another 4 miles the following day.     • Comfortable boots with good support for both the foot and ankle

These hiking boots are quite comfortable! They seem very sturdy, well made, and they look great. I am always apprehensive about ordering footwear without trying it on first, as I am in-between sizes. I normally wear a 6 1/2 in regular shoes but sometimes a 7 fits better, especially if it is a dress shoe (though I own some 6 1/2 in dress shoes as well). I measured my foot several times, and according to some online charts it said my feet are closer to a 7, so that’s what I ordered. My feet are more narrow and these hiking boots have plenty of room. The 7 does fit comfortably but there’s some extra room, even with thick socks on, so the 6 1/2 would probably have fit me a little better. At any rate, these boots are comfortable, and have a high ankle that actually feels great. I’ve had surgery on one of my ankles twice over the years, so this will be great to help with stabilization on uneven ground. I wear an ankle brace when hiking, and it fits well in these boots. I’m looking forward to hiking and having many outdoor adventures wearing these shoes. I would recommend them, and order them again. ... show more
