Worked perfectly with my HM Airon chair! I am tickled to be able to keep restoring this old 90's office chair with the parts available online. It is the perfect chair and if it couldn't be fully functional, I would have to settle for a lesser chair. The piston started slipping on my 2008 Aeron chair about a month ago. This replacement is perfect. The old piston is difficult to remove - don't think you're going to do it with a pair of channel locks. I used a 12" pipe wrench with self adjusting jaws. Herman Miller Aeron chairs have a proprietary taper in the base. This cylinder fixed my sagging seat. The cheaper version from other vendors placed the seat far too high and felt sketchy. The cost was more, but the result is excellent!

    • A perfect replacement.
The best thing about buying a Herman Miller Arron chair (as I did 26 years ago!) is that like an old VW, it’s built amazingly well, and parts can be replaced. The piston in my chair gave out and I was left practically sitting in the floor. This piston is an exact replacement, and the change can be easily made at home. Removing the old piston from the chair frame was difficult. But with a little WD-40 penetrating oil, a 16” pipe wrench, and some strength, the old cylinder will loosen. Removing the bottom connection to the legs, requires only a sharp hammer blow. This unit is perfect. Maybe another 20 years of life for this amazing chair. And it’s like a brand new one. Piston is heavy and arrived quickly. Took maybe an hour to make the replacement. There are two types of piston: One with a button on the top, another with a cable connection. Be sure to check yours before ordering. Oh, and the price is an incredible value. ... show more

Item fit once I went to YouTube and they showed how to remove the old one. Needs instructions or a YouTube link. Getting old one off is not easy.

Easier than I even expected and strong as an Ox. Do yourself a favor and pocket the $75-150 in repair labor and just do this yourself. The product basically installs itself. I am not handy. The quality of this unit is top-notch. Solid as can be.
