    • The pitch correction is worth the price

I’m confused by some of the negative reviews. The thing requires a firmware update as soon as you get it in order to have access to things like vocal compression. However, it was functional out of the box. At least for me, the firmware update was seamless and took five minutes I bought this unit for one reason; Live pitch correction. I have always had pretty decent pitch, but better is better, and this makes it better. If you cannot sing at all, I do not see how this would be of much benefit to you. But if you can sing, you can set the parameter on this thing to “chromatic“ and dial in the return speed and the humanize knob until you get transparent vocal pitch correction. If you have never used live pitch correction before, it can initially be a little bit disconcerting because you hear the corrected pitch through your monitor while hearing the original pitch via bone conduction in your head. It is like hearing a sound slightly out of phase. But you are the only person who can hear that sound. Before I ever used this unit live, I hooked it up to a full PA and set up a microphone in front of the speakers and recorded me playing and singing a song with an acoustic guitar and my vocal. The recording sounds great and was totally transparent. I’ve seen some reviews that complained about being able to hear the correction. That’s either a defective unit or they haven’t tinkered with the retune speed or the “humanize” KNOB. The second of those is actually more important. The knobs on this do not work the same as they do in a DAW, so some experimentation is essential. The harmony feature is not something I care about which is good because I do not think it’s great. I do run a guitar through it and I run it in chromatic mode and it does make some harmonic sound but I have heard way better from other manufacturers. The reverbs in delays are pretty nice but I do wish I could EQ the reverb because they tend to be pretty bright. But that’s what board EQ is for. My rating is based on the transparency and effectiveness of the pitch correction, which is the whole deal. If you are a good enough live singer where you can run this in chromatic mode and only have to think about it whenever you wanna talk to the crowd (it has a full bypass mode by stepping on the right button for two seconds) then this is the unit you’ve been looking for ... show more

VX5 Vocal Autotune pedal offers me more than others I have owned. I have owned many vocal pedals here's a few. T.C. Helicon Voicelive Play, Voicelive Play Electric, Mic Mechanic 2, FLAMMA FV01, BOSS VE-2, BOSS VE-500, and The Headrush Core. Don't misunderstand these are Excellent in many areas each a strengths and weaknesses and I'm delighted each time something new comes to the market in an attempt to provide vocalist with a useful tool. I'm sure I'll be trying new offerings in the future. So after trying the VX5 Vocal Effects Pedal for several days I'm very impressed For these 3 reasons for now it's my vocal pedal of choice. 1 Pitch correction for me is my number one priority and none of the other mentioned pedals come even close to this pedal with its Auto-Tune capability, it even exceeds my DAW Auto-tune plugins to which I have three. 2 Vocal shaping by applying the various pedals FX features in conjunction with Auto-tune I'm able to achieve quality results. 3 Harmony is important to me more for vocal shaping but as a Harmony only setting in my opinion the settings it offers are just as good if not better than other pedals. The VX5 has fewer FX categories and preset setting choices, but the most important ones are there and when combining presets setting with few exceptions it will achieve what presets settings that aren't listed. When using the FX effects in conjunction with the VX5 Vocal Autotune feature the outcome in quality has exceeded all the other pedals. for me. Is heavy (build like a tank) quality appearing to be exceptional. Updating the firmware, it's very easy and offers a path to future settings and upgrades. The only lacking thing right now is the ability to back up your created presets. When connected with USB cable the VX5 file system doesn't appear so your unable to back up any self created presets. Surely a programming oversight that will be corrected. ... show more

I really like the menu system FX in the pedal are really usable. These aren't magic I have a couple TC Helicon Voice Live acoustics and I don't really notice a huge difference in the AutoTune if it is it's subtle. Or maybe I'm so tone def I just can't hit the notes close enough for any autotune to correct it. I've spent 4 hours learning how to get it to correct and do harmony in key and have yet to get it usable. It's better but still not always in key in the harmony. Autotune by itself without harmony is better but still not exactly perfect misses about every 8th note and never corrects it. Unlike the Helicon it says instrument in the harmony section but want's the key input in the Autotune section. Still trying to understand why. Take away from my review that if your just starting to understand Autotune your going to have to spend some time getting everything dialed in. This isn't plug and play. If i find some secret handshake I'll update this review. Oh and when you're updating the firmware and downlowd the file. It says it's only compatible with Windows 10 if you click on the downloaded file for some stupid reason. What it wanted me to do is you have to use the file with the Headrush firmware local URL (I've done this a lot and never seen that one before a local URL on a usb port) and then click download on the page that opens up and point it to the file to update. This is pretty awesome! This does in hardware what I'd been using software to do.. It's very flexible and I have fun playing around with it for hours, and it's got what I need anad more. If you're into needing AutoTune this does a great job of evening things out.
