I know they are wood frames but they look like cheap plastic ones. Especially when hung up. Found ones that are more aesthetically pleasing for half the price. $80 is just too much for these.

    • Pretty Natural Wood Color but Plexiglass

These frames are almost perfect. The natural wood color is lovely. Sometimes these finishes can look rather fake and cheap. These say they're made from oak and it looks like it. Adding a matt makes them look gorgeous. However, I didn't read that they are plexiglass. What a shame for a solid wood frame. It's very thin plexiglass, too. This makes them feel very light and cheap. My only gripe with plexi is it can scratch and yellow. Real glass can always be cleaned back to it's original crystal clear color. My experience with plexi is not the same. Over time it yellows and just looks like plastic. They're still really nice for decorating. I guess as long as the plastic remains clean and clear. I'm very pleased with the natural color and grain of the oak wood. Very sad about the plexiglass. At 15 bucks each, these would have been a little pricey for glass, but plastic...no way. Price is way too expensive for plastic! 4 stars for appearance, construction and function. 1 star for value. ... show more

This review is for the HAUS and HUES gallery wall set of black frames. This set of six includes two 8x10, 11x14, and 12x16 frames. While they're made of solid oak, to be honest, unless you're specifically looking for a very minimalistic style, I don't see how they're any better than the IKEA KNOPPÄNG series of entry-level frames. The HAUS and HUES (HH) frames feature a flat and thin (~1 cm, 0.4 inches) molding (the wooden part) and don't come with matting, so in my opinion, they're best suited for prints with lots of white space. The IKEA frames are nearly half the price, and the multi-pack comes with a wider variety of sizes for more collage options. Also, depending on the set, some come with matting and even themed poster prints so that the frames can be used right out of the box. The HH and IKEA frames are similarly lightweight, have similar mounting mechanisms, and have shatterproof plexiglass. The IKEA frames are made from fiberboard instead of wood, but their combination of beveled molding and matting makes for a more substantial presence. The area where the HH frames are decidedly superior is their use of better backing clips. The IKEA ones have short metal tabs that can be dangerous if you manipulate them with your fingernails instead of a tool. My wife and I are updating our home decor with new photo collages, and we decided to combine the HH and IKEA frames. Although they use different styles, I think they can work well together. When it comes to picture frames, I prefer minimal ones that won't distract from the images they surround. (In fact, I once built my own for an exhibit because I couldn't find any frames that matched what I had in mind.) I have needed to frame a project I made last spring, but I have not had the time nor money to figure out what might work for it, so I was especially appreciative of the chance to test these Haus and Hues frames. They are just what I want—solid wood and simple. I especially like that the plexiglass fronts arrive protected by film on both sides, so it's pristine when you are ready to frame and looks like glass. (Another reviewer questioned the need for the film, given that the frames are encased in plastic, but two of my frames' plastic wrapping suffered minor tears in shipping, so I was glad for the extra protection for the plexiglass. I was also happy about the plastic caps on the frames' corners, which kept them from getting dinged.) The back panel is thin but sturdy particle board with especially springy closures, making for a secure fit behind the image. The saw-tooth brackets are also sturdy. My one itty-bitty complaint is the vertical-hanging saw-tooth bracket on one of the 12x16 frames was not quite level, off by maybe a few millimeters. That's a tiny nit to pick, though, because six solid-oak frames that look great at such an affordable price? Pinch me! No they're not fancy, but they *are* attractive and functional! ... show more

these took a minute to arrive but when they did, they were nicer than expected. i ordered them to frame wall art but decided that we will print some photos out for them instead. These are great, simple, sharp looking, clean design that fits with any decor. pleasantly surprised by the quality!
