This was fairly easy to assemble. It’s large and fits a good amount of toys in it. The curve at the top makes closing it very easy and my kid has never gotten her fingers pinched. After reading the comments about the top, the first thing I did after assembly was to sit on the closed top. I found it to be very sturdy even for my 150 lb body, so no worries there. The sides all aligned properly (in reference to some other reviews), and assembly was reasonably easy. The only issues I came across are two things: some scratches (from shipping?) that I'll need to touch up with a furniture marking pen, and it needs some matching stick-on covers to hide the screws' metal contrast (most furniture vendors usually supply these with the parts, so that's a bit disappointing). The slats on top could be aligned a little better, but it's not at all a deal-breaker. It looks decent enough not to feel cheap. Unless your furniture is high-quality design, this piece should blend right in with dark-wood-themed decorating (for the espresso-colored choice). Holds lots of toys. ... show more

    • Lid didn't align properly
Not hard to put together, especially if you tend to be decent at assembling things; I put it together by myself, and would have finished in an hour if it weren't for the following issue: After putting the base together, I began to add the lid via the pre-drilled holes. It didn't align- the lid overhangs a bit on the left side and the right front corner of the lid sits about 1/4" above the base when the lid is down (unless I put several pounds of pressure on the right side). I even tried taking the base apart and switching the side panels (they appear to be interchangeable) just in case they weren't exactly the same. The lid still didn't lay properly- same issue. I tried leaving a few books on it overnight, hoping the piece just needed to be trained into the right position. Didn't work. I considered returning it, but decided it wasn't noticeable a defect for my purposes. The side panels are also mostly something that feels like plastic- framed in the engineered wood they advertised. Reasonably sturdy, I probably wouldn't let a kid climb on it often though. It could probably take the weight, but I wouldn't trust it. ... show more

I bought this "treasure chest" for my son's bedroom toys. It's a really great size for the end of the bed, holds lots of stuff. The wood is actually pretty solid, top is very nice and overall it looks great. However, I have a few concerns that prevent me from loving it. Anytime I am not 100% happy with a purchase but consider keeping it anyway, I base the decision to keep on one thing, Does the price of the product compared to competetors make the issues I have not a big deal. In this case I will keep it based on what I paid, if it was over $100 I would be returning it. 1) The bottom piece is not solid and rather thin. This really could have been done better for the price, although not cardboard it is very thin and can imagine a kid trying to sitting in the chest and damaging the bottom. 2) The biggest issue I have is the hardware, bottom line the hindges that secure the top are not great. This toy box will be opened and closed 1000's of times, I suspect this might not last me through all of his childhood. 3) The easy close hinge that protects it from slamming shut does it's job, but If I open the top too quickly it does not stay open all the way, sometimes if you just swing it open the weight pushes it closed half way. Not a huge deal but again if the hardware was stronger this would be a great purchase. ... show more
