I like this box a whole lot. Buying a box of mixed species wood like this gives you a good chance to try different types of wood. It is full of small pieces and will look just like the pieces in the photo. So don't expect to build something large but it is enough for very small projects or the highlighting of area sections or maybe even slicing thinner for inlays.

It's wonderful. They hooked it up. The boards are cut nice. I got 3 different types in mine. They look amazing and I can't wait to create something. I am new to woodworking but this has me really looking forward to building something. I may start with a mallet. Seems like a good first project.

I received an order of end cut wood with cracks and crevices to try to do some epoxy work, which I’ve never tried on wood before so I’m excited to try it out myself. I appreciate the low cost option of using this wood as a lower cost option for my attempt to get the results I want to see, but if I blow it at least I didn’t have to spend a lot on this box. A few pieces are perfect so I will probably use that for something else. I have a few pieces of wood picked out to try out with the epoxy that I already have on hand and if it goes well I’ll probably need to get some more. I’m just happy to have another great box of wood from Woodchucks. There are some really nice pieces included in this collection. But be sure you don’t mind getting some wood with cracks and crevices in them or if you are expecting some perfect wood this isn’t the box for you and I think you might be disappointed with it. If you have been looking for something to try epoxy with, this wood is great for this project.

I buy about one of these a year from this one or one of the other choices. I use the wood from everything from woodworking/crafts to home repair patches. This latest batch is mixed feelings. The pros some pretty dark woods about half I’d say. Nice change from the usual lighter woods I get. Con’s is that there are a lot of knots in this batch and some of the wood has small holes in it. And of course everyone wish that it was labeled.

I knew this box was a random assortment of unlabeled wood species, but I was very pleasantly surprised with what I received! My box contained a lot of large boards and boards with awesome gain patterns. I was super excited about the two pieces of curly maple and all the walnut! I did my best to label the species based on grain patterns, but I may have made a few errors. Here are the types of wood in my box (I think): Ash, Cherry, Curly Maple, Oak, Poplar (maybe), Red Cedar, Walnut, and two boards I could not identify (one of those looks like an exotic). My largest boards were a 3/4" x 10" x 12" Cherry and a 3/4" x 8" x12" Walnut. My smallest piece was a 3/4" x 4" x 4" Ash. The box arrived a week ahead of schedule too! Will definitely order again!

Underwood expert so you guys will have to tell me what varieties I’ve got. Pictured of the two boxes. The first appeared to be pretty clearly five or possibly six varieties of wood. At least a couple pieces that I’m pretty sure I poplar… But mostly was harder stuff that I could guess at but couldn’t say for sure. The material in the second box was a lot more varied although it may not be any more varieties I just couldn’t collect the varieties as well by my uneducated eye. Only thing I could be definitely sure of is I’m almost positive the red stuff is aromatic red cedar because it’s got a strong cedar smell to it. The boxes were roughly 16 to 17 pounds which is close enough to 20 in my opinion and they were both very full. I only really found one sizable knot (visible in pics) in the entire lot and no splits. all in all it’s like a really nice collection of wood. I’m planning to make butcher block out of it, so I’m gonna do my best to ID what I got to make sure I’m not using anything I shouldn’t in a butcher block… edit: I've since ordered 3 or 4 more. All but the most recent one were consistently 16lbs and roughly the same mix as above. Last box appears to be mostly oak/maple, a little poplar and walnut... and then one board that is pretty clearly pine... and a very soft example of pine at that (almost feels like balsa). There was more empty space in the box than usual... and the pine was a bit unexpected. Weight 15lbs 4 oz. By far the worst box so far... so take this as the worst case. Not a bad deal still... but come on... pine? In a hardwood box? Still the best deal I've seen. Of the 5-6 boxes I've gotten... I'd say it's been about 40% 4x1, 30% 2x1, 10% 6x1, 10% other random width 1" boards, and <10% 1/2" thick pieces. Mostly 11-12" long with a few odd shorter bits.

Size and thickness of boards was good but overall quality was very disappointing. Two of the larger boards had very large open knots and another had multiple cracks half way down the length of the board. Those three board are useless. Other board had a few checks and cracks but left enough useful wood to be worth while pieces. Overall it was not a good value for me and I feel taken advantage of. I expected short or small pieces but did expect more of the box to be useful. This was not a good value for me and will not buy it again.

Very impressed! I ordered this hoping for a few pieces of hardwood for making knife handles, and this box was awesome. Nearly every piece will be usable, sure a few will need a little work, but I paid about what it would cost for 2 sets of knife handle scales, and can probably make at least 20. I ordered another box immediately after opening this one. Even if the next box is garbage I will have still got my money's worth. Also shipped SUPER fast. Over a week ahead of schedule.
