    • Better than I expected! A real violin!
I'm impressed! I ordered this sparkly pink 1/4 size violin for my six year old on a whim. She's been begging to learn violin, and I was explaining to her that it's a whole thing, and I didn't have the energy to look into it right now--we'd need to figure out where to get one her size, arrange lessons, etc., and I couldn't just snap my fingers and make it happen. She replied "Can't you just order one on Amazon?" And here we are, apparently you can. It's in our hands two days later and it's surprisingly nice. What a world we live in. I remember getting my first violin in the 1990s being a huge ordeal. The violin came well packaged with pretty much everything you need (I did buy a bow buddy separately, but that's not strictly necessary). The directions to set it up are pretty thorough. That said, it's not trivial to set up a violin, especially if you don't know anything about violin, so I suspect a lot of the negative reviews are from people who overtightened strings and bows, or simply don't understand how long it takes everything to stretch and "break in." I'm impressed with the sound I got out of it right out of the box. In the video you'll hear that I was having trouble hitting notes on the A string and I can't tell if it's me or the violin, but it does feel like something is a little imperfect about the curvature of the finger board. It's definitely a student violin, but I was expecting worse, especially for such a small instrument. It's a real violin. A child can start to learn to play on this. If that's what you're looking for, this is an affordable way to get it! ... show more

I recently purchased this white violin for my daughter, and we are extremely happy with it! The color is absolutely beautiful — the white finish makes it look unique compared to traditional violins. My daughter loves how it looks and feels proud bringing it to her lessons. The quality is surprisingly good for the price. The sound is clear and pleasant, especially for a beginner instrument. It stays in tune well once adjusted, and the tone is much better than we expected at this price point. If you are not familiar with stringed instruments the sight of the violin might scare you when you first open the case, but this is normal. Things to know if you have never played a stringed instrument, you must put rosin on a new bow for it to make any sound when you glide it across the strings. This means that you will need to scratch the rosin up so it will make a powder to get it to stick to the bow. Second the bridge is in fact supposed to be held in place by tension from the strings. What is important is placing the bridge in the correct spot and facing the correct way. I recommend watching a video on it. For the violin its self, it was about what I was expecting for a “beginners” instrument. However, do wish the bow was a little better quality. I won’t be upset when my six year old drops it or eventually out grows it. This is not an expensive family heirloom instrument but more of something to play with and learn on. What I was mostly annoyed with is the glittery finish. No where in the description did I see glittery red finish mentioned. Thankfully my son doesn’t seem to care. ... show more

Very disappointed. Don’t waste your money. I purchased this in early November for a Christmas gift. Today is when the violin was unboxed. Lesson learned on my end. The strings are broken and not attached. Cannot even tighten them. The “hair” on the bow is terrible and no sound produces. We have a sad child today!
