This is a wonderful device for the home metal caster. No more worrying about using tongs and dropping your crucible. It has a smooth pouring action and holds the crucible well. First, let me say the the build quality is very good, and I don't have a problem with that. The problem is that the crucible capacity is much less than advertised. If you fill the crucible to the brim with water, it holds 971 grams. That is equivalent to 971 milliliters. The standard for gauging crucible capacity seems to be the amount of copper they can hold. Copper is the heaviest of the common metals that folks would melt in this type of furnace. Aluminum, brass, bronze, and zinc are all lighter. Based on the density of copper (8.93 grams per ml), the crucible only holds 8.6kg, NOT 10kg. I suppose for some it doesn't matter that much, but if you pay for a 10kg set, you should get a 10kg set. So, I returned it and will order the 12kg set, which will probably hold 10kg. ... show more
