I've been using H&R Block software for at least 15 years to do my own taxes. I find it easy to use; it guides you through the process. Also the program can answer most tax questions that I've had, and if if can't it directs you to the appropriate IRS web pages.

    • Too Many Crashes!
UPDATE: After another couple of weeks of struggling with crashes, I'm reducing my rating to one star. It's impossible to get any work done with this software with the crashes after every step. This should be removed from the market until it's fixed, al least for the Mac version. ORIGINAL: Decent tax prep software that's relatively straightforward to use, BUT it crashes repeatedly on an M1 Mac with the latest OS. Very difficult to make any progress on the return with the repeated crashes. Would not buy again unless they fix the software. Going back to TurboTax to complete my return. ... show more

    • Works as intended
Been using this ever since TurboTax did the crazy price hike 10 or so years ago. The questions are a little different, so if you’re a long time TurboTax user, it may be a little…confusing is way too strong a word, but it just takes a minute to get used to it. Works just the same though. Glad I switched. If you can, buy it early and get it for $20 or less. It’s a bargain then. Otherwise, it's priced just about right. They keep the price point where it is, and not do the crazy TurboTax prices, and I’ll keep using this product. Highly recommend. ... show more

    • Best value for tax preparation software
I’ve used this tax software for several years now and I find it to be the best value in tax preparation software. It’s just as user friendly as the most popular tax prep software. The user interface is straightforward and easy to navigate. I don’t use paid tax software for my state taxes. My state has a very straightforward web interface that relies on numbers directly lifted from federal tax so it’s not worth the extra cost of buying package with state software and paying the extra filing fee. Convenient way to prepare and electronically file taxes. Only issue was the numerous updates that had to be downloaded.

    • Keeps crashing
I've used H&R Block for several years because it's cheaper than Turbo Tax and seems to do just as good a job. This year has been the exception. The software itself is fine. Everything was easy to do. I gave it 1 star instead of 5 for two reasons. The app keeps crashing. In the middle of adding a form it will just completely crash. Then you have to start over from the last point you remembered to save. At several points, it would crash while attempting to move to the next step, for example, from Federal to State. I simply had to keep trying until it could finish. I think it took around 5 times of it crashing before I successfully advanced. The second issue is that it won't properly format my documents to print. I am efiling, but I like to print them off too. No matter what I try, I can't get it to print them correctly. It is cutting off almost half of the form. I may have to switch back to Turbo Tax next year. ... show more

Not much to say. Have been using them for many many years and always does the job. No problem and will continue to use them for years to come.

    • This years version is buggy
I’ve used H&R Block software for well over a decade now. I started using it when it was initially called “Tax Cut”. With that being said, this years version is the buggiest I’ve ever encountered. I don’t ever recall having so many issues with it. Too top it all off. When I filled mine and my parents tax returns we kept getting emails repeatedly saying the IRS accepted out returns. We each recorded 25 emails stating this. It was basically every half hour another email world come in. Don’t get me wrong. It’s been great all these years. However this year is a bust for the software. Hopefully next year's will be better. ... show more
