  • A good playable guitar at a low price
Color: Brown
I was looking to buy a kit to build and modify, but this guitar came up on my feed. It cost less than the kit plus finishing supplies. One thing- don't let the fact that the top has a vinyl wrap instead of maple veneer dissuade you from buying this guitar. Veneering maple is problematic, as it tends to distort and buckle while vacuum bagging. --Remember this is a low-priced point item. So, this is a legitimate cost cutting item. the guitar looks very nice; I have not found any flaws. When I plugged it in, I thought it sounded like crap, that is until I removed the protective film on the pickups-Oops!!! I am very surprised at how well this guitar plays. It is very articulate- not at all muddy. Small changes in tone have a profound effect on the overall sound. I did raise the pickups to get some tonal clarity and volume I do not use a pick, the sharpness of going from fingernails to flesh is a whole tonal palate in itself, which is very clear and crisp. The frets are finished well, level and with no fret sprouting or sharp edges. Out of the box the intonation is perfect there is a slight neck relief-as expected, no fret buzzing, the action is low. Overall, it is setup right. The tuners are a little stiff but hold in tune in spite of my constant bends. Very low effort to strum clean notes, chords are a breeze. This guitar has a surprising amount of sustain, which hollow bodies typically do not. I think it the set neck and tail piece. Again, I am surprised at how good this guitar is. If you don't sound like BB king -it is not the guitar's fault!! ... show more

  • The ES-335 Has Competition!!!!! Is it Christmas time?
Color: Brown
Oh man. I can't believe I was gifted with this guitar. I thought the picture looked good, and the price tag was so low, I thought I might give this purchase a chance and buy a Grote. I needed some form of archtop and realized there were 518 good reviews on this guitar. I thought this guitar would be smaller and lighter - like a toy. Man!!! the es-335 has some competition. You just won't believe the quality of this $234 guitar. The action or the distance between string and fret was awesome. I don't want to mess with it. It's perfect (is what I want to say) and I'm sure you'll have a blast playing this guitar. I'm so impressed with this purchase, I'm thinking about buying another one in purple or red. It's that good. I can afford it. $234? Wow, trust me!!! You won't be disappointed with a purchase or two for this guitar. Man, it's Christmas time and you'll be happy with this guitar. Go ahead and get this guitar. If you're looking for a nice archtop, don't hesitate, go for it. You'll love it!!! ... show more

  • It's beautiful.
Color: Brown
The craftsmanship on this guitar is beautiful. It plays and sounds fantastic. The negatives are, the pickups are slightly stereophonic which means that you might need to change them if your playing with a band. Also, the nut is made of plastic instead of bone. This also could be changed. Both of these issues keep the guitar at a lower price and are perfectly fine. Overall, the guitar plays looks and sounds fantastic! ... show more

  • Ok Guitar but needs work and upgrades putting it in Epi ES335 price range.
Color: Black
Purchased the Black Model which looks incredible. Pros: The workmanship is pretty good for the money. The pickups sound ok and electronics work perfectly. Cons: The neck is fat like a '59 Gibson shape, the frets will need to be leveled unless you like high action, the bridge is not snug and moves, the tuner gears are loose and string slip. If you expect anything more than what you paid for you will be disappointed. You will need to invest another 200.00 to get the guitar to work as it should. If other who purchased this guitar do not have some of these problems it will be hard to believe as they have the same tuners and bridge as mine. I purchased a Redid Semi here on Amazon 2 weeks ago and it was a way better guitar. Only sent it back because it was damaged with a dime size chip on the back of the body from poor packaging. I think the Grote is going back since the total cost would be 450.00 to get her right and there are many other guitars that cost around that where there will be no need for upgrades. Good luck if you get one of these. Maybe you will get lucky. ... show more

  • Visually exceptional, hands-on feel is solid; great potential here...
Color: Red
I wanted a low cost semi hollow body, and opted for this one rather than gamble with the online auctions. Who would not want a true Gibson ES335 or similar? But those are also many, many dollars more. This Grote looked nice, and the price was very, very affordable, so I'm taking a chance. When this arrived, it was on the porch in the box for two days in the single digit temperatures. When opened, its intonation was spot on, which was nice. The fretwork is very good; no rough edges, so far no fret buzz. The finish is really very very nice (red flame is great), which is a plus. So far, the humbuckers are decent using the strings that came on it. The truss rod cover is loose, as it's swinging; not a big deal. What I may change in the future: tuners (will add Grovers); strings will be quickly replaced; I will wait on changing the pickups till this gets more practice time. But for a very early on initial impression, this is a very nice guitar. ... show more

  • Happy Customer
Color: Red
I JUST got mine. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It was as pictured except the back side looks more brown than the cherryish red that appeared in the pictures. Not a problem to me. The top looks great so I'm happy. The F holes seems to be bound, which I didn't expect. I thought they were painted. When you look really close at the finish, the F holes are not perfect, but who cares? Everything else was damn near perfect. No polishing compound or readily percievable imperfections. The pick guard seems like the worse thing about this. Its not great looking up close, but, whatever. The other thing I was not thrilled with, was how much the neck pick up seemed to move when taking the plastic off. Thats something I am a little worried about. I have not attempted to make any adjustments to it yet. Though it looks really low. I am a complete noob when it comes to guitar, but I watched a ton of reviews and set up videos so I managed my expectations and bought a luthier kit so that I would be prepared to make any adjustments that may have been needed, because there are no guitar techs on my island. I figured I would have to learn eventually anyway and a $250 guitar seemed to be the one to practice on. Out of the box, the neck was as straight as an arrow after checking it with the straight edge from my kit. It looked BANG on ( +/- a few thousands of an inch for the cheap straight edge). I tuned it up and checked the intonation like I saw in the videos. It was quite acceptable. I checked the action height and put the capo on the 1st fret and no strings were touching any frets. The frets are a little dull, but I expected that. I will polish on the first string change. No frets appear to be high or need any adressing otherwise. I have not had a chance to check the tone yet as the amp has not arrived yet, but all in all I am very happy. I will update after getting the amp to ensure everything works properly. The tuning seems ok, but its literally only been a few hours. I did notice that the strings slipped a little and got a little flat, but the strings are not broken in so I expected that. I don't think I will fuss about it too much until I put the new strings on. FOr now I am leaving the ones that it came with. The packaging leaves a little to be desired as it was only a single box with the guitar inside of the gig bag. The box itself didn't have that much styrofoam except to support the neck, but it arrived fine with no damage to the box so, the guitar was therefore unscathed. so far, 10/10, would purchase again. *UPDATE*. My little amp arrived and everything works. 15/10 would buy again ... show more

  • Great looker and plays well too! Great looker and plays well too!
Color: Red
Wasn't sure about this brand but loved the look of the 335 they make with the trapeze bridge mount. Got it and not only was it a looker but it had the best "set up" I've ever got from a guitar company straight out of the box! No joke. The only thing I did was throw some Ernie Ball strings on it. It plays very well and has an incredible ring to it (both acoustically and through an amp). Definitely a good buy for people that aren't guitar snobs and like value for their money. ... show more

  • Grote builds a beautiful335 I love it in every way Grote builds a beautiful335 I love it in every way
Color: Black02
😎 just got my second Grote 335 my first one was the quilted purple sold it to a friend needed the money for some other project. I was working on but a few months later I was missing it too much so when the black quilted version came up on sale, I grabbed it totally gorgeous. This one actually has a little thinner neck than my first one when I got it back in the middle of the pandemic. I also had to get my purple one a full set up this one though straight out of the box tuned it in D sharp and she sounds beautiful. I wouldn’t trade this guitar for Gibson if you’re looking for a awesome semi hollow body electric with a trapeze tailpiece I highly suggest these awesome guitars. I’ve had many guitars through the years everywhere from so-called budget guitars to extremely high-end instruments that made me nervous to play them for the price.Grote builds a beautiful and impressive semi hollow body ... show more
