I was looking to buy a kit to build and modify, but this guitar came up on my feed. It cost less than the kit plus finishing supplies. One thing- don't let the fact that the top has a vinyl wrap instead of maple veneer dissuade you from buying this guitar. Veneering maple is problematic, as it tends to distort and buckle while vacuum bagging. --Remember this is a low-priced point item. So, this is a legitimate cost cutting item. the guitar looks very nice; I have not found any flaws. When I plugged it in, I thought it sounded like crap, that is until I removed the protective film on the pickups-Oops!!! I am very surprised at how well this guitar plays. It is very articulate- not at all muddy. Small changes in tone have a profound effect on the overall sound. I did raise the pickups to get some tonal clarity and volume I do not use a pick, the sharpness of going from fingernails to flesh is a whole tonal palate in itself, which is very clear and crisp. The frets are finished well, level and with no fret sprouting or sharp edges. Out of the box the intonation is perfect there is a slight neck relief-as expected, no fret buzzing, the action is low. Overall, it is setup right. The tuners are a little stiff but hold in tune in spite of my constant bends. Very low effort to strum clean notes, chords are a breeze. This guitar has a surprising amount of sustain, which hollow bodies typically do not. I think it the set neck and tail piece. Again, I am surprised at how good this guitar is. If you don't sound like BB king -it is not the guitar's fault!!

Shipped with no damage, guitar came wrapped in a styrofoam wrap and then in the bag - then in a cardboard triangle shaped box- guitar neck was supported by a foam block and foam blocks were strategically placed to keep the guitar from moving in the box - guitar has medium weight strings - tuners are ok, not the best, but for a budget guitar they work fine - intonation was right on. Pickups are humbuckers and do their job. The frets were not sharp on the edges and to the naked eye look level - the finish is very good - keep in mind the guitar is painted ( not a wrap) and the binding is real also - this guitar plays easy and sounds great

I JUST got mine. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It was as pictured except the back side looks more brown than the cherryish red that appeared in the pictures. Not a problem to me. The top looks great so I'm happy. The F holes seems to be bound, which I didn't expect. I thought they were painted. When you look really close at the finish, the F holes are not perfect, but who cares? Everything else was damn near perfect. No polishing compound or readily percievable imperfections. The pick guard seems like the worse thing about this. Its not great looking up close, but, whatever. The other thing I was not thrilled with, was how much the neck pick up seemed to move when taking the plastic off. Thats something I am a little worried about. I have not attempted to make any adjustments to it yet. Though it looks really low. I am a complete noob when it comes to guitar, but I watched a ton of reviews and set up videos so I managed my expectations and bought a luthier kit so that I would be prepared to make any adjustments that may have been needed, because there are no guitar techs on my island. I figured I would have to learn eventually anyway and a $250 guitar seemed to be the one to practice on. Out of the box, the neck was as straight as an arrow after checking it with the straight edge from my kit. It looked BANG on ( +/- a few thousands of an inch for the cheap straight edge). I tuned it up and checked the intonation like I saw in the videos. It was quite acceptable. I checked the action height and put the capo on the 1st fret and no strings were touching any frets. The frets are a little dull, but I expected that. I will polish on the first string change. No frets appear to be high or need any adressing otherwise. I have not had a chance to check the tone yet as the amp has not arrived yet, but all in all I am very happy. I will update after getting the amp to ensure everything works properly. The tuning seems ok, but its literally only been a few hours. I did notice that the strings slipped a little and got a little flat, but the strings are not broken in so I expected that. I don't think I will fuss about it too much until I put the new strings on. FOr now I am leaving the ones that it came with. The packaging leaves a little to be desired as it was only a single box with the guitar inside of the gig bag. The box itself didn't have that much styrofoam except to support the neck, but it arrived fine with no damage to the box so, the guitar was therefore unscathed. so far, 10/10, would purchase again. *UPDATE*. My little amp arrived and everything works. 15/10 would buy again

I wanted a low cost semi hollow body, and opted for this one rather than gamble with the online auctions. Who would not want a true Gibson ES335 or similar? But those are also many, many dollars more. This Grote looked nice, and the price was very, very affordable, so I'm taking a chance. When this arrived, it was on the porch in the box for two days in the single digit temperatures. When opened, its intonation was spot on, which was nice. The fretwork is very good; no rough edges, so far no fret buzz. The finish is really very very nice (red flame is great), which is a plus. So far, the humbuckers are decent using the strings that came on it. The truss rod cover is loose, as it's swinging; not a big deal. What I may change in the future: tuners (will add Grovers); strings will be quickly replaced; I will wait on changing the pickups till this gets more practice time. But for a very early on initial impression, this is a very nice guitar.

Is it as nice as a Gibson 335? Uh... no, of course not! But it is a dang nice guitar for $250.00. One "interesting" thing... I ordered the guitar on May 19. For some reason they originally said I wouldn't get the guitar delivered, (in the red with wood-grain color that I ordered,) until June 1-6 while most of the other colors would only take 4 days or so. I really liked this color so I was willing to wait but it ended up being delivered on May 29. Not sure what was up with that. I have read some reviews where customers noticed some minor flaws in the finish but I can't find any on this one. My only complaint about the finish is that it's much darker than it appears in the advertised pictures however, it's still a gorgeous looking guitar so that's not a game changer. The intonation is spot on which is something I've had issues with on other cheaper guitars. The action feels just how I like it. The neck is a little wider than I was expecting but a little time with it in my hands and I'll be used to that. As other reviews have noted, the frets are a little high. I knew that going in so I'm OK with that for now. I'll get them filed down a little in the future. I have a friend who is a good electric guitar setup guy so I'm going to let him work his magic on it. I don't really play electric guitar all that much but if I find myself playing more in the future, I may look into upgrading the pickups and tail piece. They don't impress me all that much. But, with a few upgrades, this guitar could be something really special. I just got it today and if my opinion changes in the future, I'll be sure to update this review.

Purchased the Black Model which looks incredible. Pros: The workmanship is pretty good for the money. The pickups sound ok and electronics work perfectly. Cons: The neck is fat like a '59 Gibson shape, the frets will need to be leveled unless you like high action, the bridge is not snug and moves, the tuner gears are loose and string slip. If you expect anything more than what you paid for you will be disappointed. You will need to invest another 200.00 to get the guitar to work as it should. If other who purchased this guitar do not have some of these problems it will be hard to believe as they have the same tuners and bridge as mine. I purchased a Redid Semi here on Amazon 2 weeks ago and it was a way better guitar. Only sent it back because it was damaged with a dime size chip on the back of the body from poor packaging. I think the Grote is going back since the total cost would be 450.00 to get her right and there are many other guitars that cost around that where there will be no need for upgrades. Good luck if you get one of these. Maybe you will get lucky.

I read all the reviews and they were great info. The included gig bag is actually useful and has some thickness, but I keep all my guitars in hard cases for better protection including this one. There's nothing cheap about this guitar - maybe, the photo top - but it's done so well and is really beautiful. All quality parts right down to the bound f-holes which is always a sign of quality on a hollow body guitar. Mine arrived in 2 days and played great right out of the box. I did change the decent factory strings (.10s) because I use .09s. Intonation was spot on. The switch, pots, and even the pickups are good quality. I don't want to be swapping out parts on a semi-hollow. The pots are clean and have a nice taper. The pickups measured around 12 K each and are wax potted. It is a tad neck heavy. Everything was perfect on mine. I'm a pro guitar tech and I couldn't find anything wrong with this guitar. Totally blew me away. I did switch out the black speed knobs (the right style for this guitar) with the same style black speed knobs, but with the rubber grips. I also replaced the pickguard (not the best looking for this guitar) with a clear one which really improves the look. One thing I recommend is tightening the tuner posts - factories always never tighten these posts for fear of ruining the freshly coated finish on the headstocks. I've been saying the last couple of years that lower end guitars coming out of China (cut on CNC machines) are excellent! And you get a great guitar that rivals and even sometimes surpasses some of the big names.

Playable out of the box, astonishing at this price point. The factory strings are garbage and old (fingers showed black/rust after 10 minutes) and the high E snapped. Changed them out and just wow! For context I'm a long time player, working musician. Wanted to wait a week before reviewing and made it 2 days and it will be featured in tonight's gig, this thing is awesome! The photos understate how nice it looks. The headstock is beautiful - the custom metal truss rod cover, bound headstock (!!) and the logo is pearlescent. Binding on neck, double bound body and F holes is all well done. No fret work / playability issues at all - didn't touch intonation or truss rod and it plays smooth. The neck is super comfortable. The pickups are typical cheap humbuckers, have a nice creamy sqwank, not noisy. Volume and tone controls are intuitive, feel and sound right. I so don't care if the finish is photo flame (whatever that means) or real flame, it looks amazing and at this price point complaints about that feel dumb. I saw a bunch of reviews about tuners, I don't believe them. I think the tuners are fine and hold tune no problem. I think people aren't used to playing guitars with trapeze tailpieces and stretching strings to burn them in. I'll update after some time but I don't foresee any complaints, this is way worth it. Edit: 6 months in this thing is still top notch, a crazy good value. Survived many gigs and is featured on latest album. I’m looking at other Grote models, bang for the buck is outstanding.
