  • Oustanding machine for the price
The three stars overall for this lathe is completely ridiculous. It is a very good machine, and by far the best deal for the price. You will not find a more powerful lathe with as much swing over the bed without paying thousands more. The spindle has your standard 1 1/4 x 8 threads so standard chucks and face plates will fit it. The 2MT head and tale stock is also industry standard. The only two things I would change about this lathe are the tool rest size and the spindle lock. The tool rest on this lathe uses a 24mm post where one inch is standard. Of course 24mm post tool rest are available, but I chose to bore it out to 1" with my drill press and a large twist bit. It was an easy modification and it now takes a standard tool rest. As far as the spindle lock goes, I wish it was spring loaded and built into the lathe instead of a pen that you have to stick in a hole behind the spindle. I keep a couple magnets on top of the head stock to keep the locking pin secured to the lathe so its always at an arms reach. It's not a big deal but it's a minor upgrade that would make the lathe better. The only other thing I had to do was to file down the shoulder on the spindle so my chucks would fit over it and butt up correctly on the spindle. I think this is more of an issue with Nova chucks vs the lathe itself, but it was as simple as using a fine cut file to narrow the shoulder with the lathe spinning at a low speed. It took all of 5 minutes. ... show more

Do not buy this lathe unless you have the special electrical outlets that it needs. I did no know that it required a different kind of outlet and bought it and now am going to have to get an electrician to wire a whole new line. I will not buy Grizzly again.

  • it is good but it is too high
I have owned it for 2 years, it is good but it is too high, not sure why they made the legs so tall. I am 6'-0" (30" leg seam) and I have trouble with the hight. I'll build a platform (maybe 4" high) for it. It's my only disappointment. otherwise its a good deal

  • Best lathe for the price
I bought this lathe directly from Grizzly and love it. I have had it 2 years and it hasn't had one problem and I turn most days as I am retired. The owner who said it's too tall must not be 6' as stated I am 6' and it's just right, your elbow should be the same height as the spindle. Also the guy that said don't buy Grizzly is blaming Grizzly for his not reading the description, the first thing it says is that it's 220 and all larger lathes require a 220 line. Just because he doesn't understand electrical requirements don't blame Grizzly. You won't find a better lathe for the money. ... show more
