  • An excellent guide for beginners starting greenhouse gardening An excellent guide for beginners starting greenhouse gardening
Format: Kindle
I enjoyed reading this book. Starting a garden or any other kind of planting is a daunting task. I really like how the book has a light-hearted and conversational approach and tone, while offering practical advice and encouragement. Stepping into a greenhouse for the first time is a bit like stumbling through the wardrobe into Narnia. Except instead of talking lions, you find talking tomatoes! Okay, maybe they don’t talk. But if they could, they’d tell you: the greenhouse life is the good life. I can figure it out after treating my seedlings like they were preparing for life as aquatic species (aka overwatering), you’ve got this in the bag. I like that the first chapter, Greenhouse 101, encourages beginners to start a journal to get their greenhouse goals on paper. I found the book to be well-organized, starting with choosing your greenhouse, which offers numerous options, as well as cost-saving tips and tricks. It also covers setting a budget, watering, soil, lighting and climate control, planting and harvesting, and more. There is a very helpful section on how to build the greenhouse: understanding the pros and cons of different foundation types, from the minimalist bare earth approach to the “forever home” concrete slab, properly prepare and level your site, navigate the assembly process from organizing parts to frame-up and install doors and windows, proper ventilation and access, safety measures. The book also gives some basic tips for planting (creating a planting calendar), seasonal vegetables, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting. I recommend this book to any beginner. It is easy to follow and read. My opinions are my own. ... show more

  • Inspiring and easy to understand!
Format: Kindle
Before I get into the book review itself, I can't help but praise the author's writing style, tinged with humor, and his ability to convey knowledge in a convincing manner. "Greenhouse Gardening for the Absolute Beginner" by Jaden Rivers is a truly remarkable guide for people like me, who have been dreaming of their own green garden for years. The book has it all: instructions and tips on how to plan and build a greenhouse of any size and style, a glossary of well-known and lesser-known phrases related to the topic, and talks about all the myths and excuses that are usually imposed before embarking on a greenhouse adventure. The author continues by describing the process of growing plants with an emphasis on understanding humidity, temperature control, light use, watering tools and techniques, fertilization, pest control, and everything about growing seasons and plants. All in all, a book that I will hopefully return to in the near future with my own greenhouse project. ... show more

  • Fun, Friendly & Foolproof - Even for the Plant-Challenged!
Format: Kindle
This book is a fun read with the author’s lighthearted humor he brings to what could otherwise be a dry topic. Not being a gardener at all at this point in time, I hadn’t really thought of greenhouse gardening being very much different than other gardening, but it is, and from the beginning he shares why. He also makes it very understandable and welcoming in that even beginners can become greenhouse gardeners. You will learn the ins and outs at a high level of different types of greenhouses and what to consider, and there are even some for small spaces such as balconies and patios. He breaks down what can be complicated, and makes it simple. I love the section at the end of Easy To Win plants – those that are easy to grow (for those of us who consider ourselves to be challenged in this area, this is huge – as well as the “tips to not kill things – you’re speaking my language - lol!). If you’re considering greenhouse gardening, or even regular gardening, this is a resource you definitely want in your arsenal. ... show more

  • Comprehensive Guide
Format: Kindle
This book is a comprehensive and accessible guide for newcomers eager to start their own greenhouse. The book covers a wide range of topics, including the process of planning, building, and maintaining a greenhouse, along with tips on growing plants. It offers helpful advice for beginners, focusing on how to avoid common and costly mistakes. The writing is verbose and easy to read, making the content engaging and approachable. However, I found it lacking in hands-on practical information. One major disappointment was the lack of detailed information on heating options, which I was specifically looking for. Additionally, the book does not include any photos or illustrations, which are crucial for beginners trying to visualize the process. Overall, while it’s a solid starting point for absolute beginners, it left me wishing for more in-depth and practical information. ... show more

  • complete guide
Format: Kindle
This book transforms greenhouse gardening from intimidating to accessible with its encouraging, practical approach. The author's conversational tone immediately puts nervous beginners at ease - acknowledging that many of us have "successfully grown mold in the refrigerator" rather than vegetables! The step-by-step progression from choosing a greenhouse through harvesting removes all guesswork. What impressed me most was the realistic budgeting advice and space-flexible solutions. The book covers everything from small patio setups to backyard installations, with honest cost breakdowns and money-saving tips throughout. The climate control section demystifies temperature, humidity, and lighting without overwhelming technical jargon, while the pest management chapter provides natural solutions that actually work. The practical elements shine - maintenance schedules, troubleshooting guides, and seasonal adaptation strategies provide ongoing support beyond initial setup. The emphasis on building confidence alongside gardening skills creates a supportive framework for inevitable beginner mistakes. After following this guide, I'm successfully growing tomatoes, herbs, and leafy greens year-round in my modest greenhouse setup. For anyone dreaming of fresh produce in winter or wanting food security through homegrown abundance, this book delivers exactly the encouragement and practical knowledge needed to succeed. A perfect blend of hand-holding guidance and actionable expertise. ... show more

  • Super practical guide
Format: Kindle
If you’ve ever wished you could grow your own veggies, this book breaks everything down in a super easy-to-follow way—no fancy gardening experience needed. One thing I really liked about this guide is that it doesn't assume you already know things. It explains basic terms, tools, and setups without making you feel clueless. For example, it shows how to build a small greenhouse using affordable materials (like PVC pipes and plastic sheeting), which is perfect if you're on a budget or don’t have a big backyard. There’s a great section on how to grow leafy greens like lettuce and spinach indoors with just a simple shelving unit and some grow lights. I actually tried the lettuce one, and it worked! Very satisfying. ... show more

What I loved most is how approachable the information is. It walks you through choosing the right structure, managing temperature and light, and selecting beginner-friendly crops. • Wow! It is hard to articulate everything in this book about greenhouses.
Format: Kindle
The author takes you on a hand holding journey from conceptualizing a greenhouse, to creating one. How to orient workspaces, plant selections, humidity, ventilation, flooring options, composting, watering, sun and shade, cost friendly heating sources like water barrels, soil options, do you fertilize, pest control, and so much more. The author makes it clear that this is journey and suggests journaling your successes and failures in your learning process to be able to use as your guide and way to celebrate and be able to share your wisdom with others. Then she describes the taste of success when making her own pasta sauce and ways to store your harvest. Troubleshooting is a very helpful section. If that is not enough to WOW you the extensive list of references and a little free stuff tucked in the last few pages crown the work with authority and generosity. A must have resource if you are even thinking about stating a greenhouse. ... show more
