The books are abnormally narrow and after getting them I’m really disappointed. They were a gift and they look weird. A little pricey too, after finding that out. Overall I would say a disappointment but I guess I should have read dimensions.     • Must read saga of fiction!
I used to think Dune was “old people” science fiction but I was surprised to find that I loved it! I’ve read the series 3 times over and I keep finding deeper nuances to the story and the lore! This is a must read for anyone who likes fiction, epics, science fiction and more!

    • Classics. The reprinting is well done and easy to read.
One of my all time favorite books (Dune) and series. On a critical basis one does have to go along with some very speculative ideas on the nature of time and singular patterns that conflict with most interpretations of a quantum universe, but the story is still engrossing and the weaving of politics and religion into a fictional world is outstanding and realistic. ... show more

I had the first book years ago, it’s long since gone, and I’m glad to be reading it again. I appreciated that the trilogy came packaged together. Interesting that the subject matter is so current and relevant to 2022.

    • Did I miss something or is this simply... ?
Okay, I don’t read a lot of Science Fiction. But with the movie and the hype and all that— why not give it a try? So I bought the Dune Saga, volumes 1 - 3. The first book was kinda confusing ( I soon learned to ignore the little pseudo-philosophical “quotes” at the beginning of each chapter) : it bops around from one time to the next future time, some jumps farther than others. I guess there wasn’t much happening in-between. (Radio & Television call it “dead air”. Lots of dead air. The difference between books 1 and 2 is, well, day and night. I understand its purpose was to bridge between the two books and set the stage for book 3, but I don’t see it. They could’ve been written by two different writers (well, not really, but sometimes it seems like it). But let’s get to the literary butchering of the third book— it’s got to be one of the most poorly conceived and executed pieces of pulp fiction I have ever read! Come on: the lead character morphing into some drug-created ecological juggernaut hell-bent on “going back to some lost balance-with-nature lifestyle... it’s like the author dropped acid and “realized” the true ending for THE BOOK. It reminds me of the “surprise ending” in Children of the Corn: Urban Harvest. I’m serious— it’s that bad. If THIS is one of the “greatest” books of Science Fiction, it’ll be a “cold day in hell...” P.S.— George Herbert did NOT invent the Cargo Container. It was invented by Malcom McLean & Keith Tatlinger (two Americans) in 1956. [8 x 8 x 20 ft.] Sorry, Brian. (“Children of Dune”, Introduction, line three.) ... show more

    • Avoid the movie. This is a classic
Like so many, I read this in the early 1970s. It had the most impact on me of any science fiction (or fantasy, for that matter) save for the Foundation series by Asimov. So when the movie came out on HBO, I thought: how in the world or any other world can this be made into a movie? Dinner with friends (several who had never read the book) asked who had seen the movie. Most. Except me. And most all were very disappointed in the movie and "didn't get it." Well, no wonder! I finally broke down and watched and ... what a disaster! Jumping around so much (the beginning of the movie jumps way ahead in the story) it is dizzying and divorced from the story. Add absolutely zero character building... No. Just no. I found myself not caring a whit about any of the characters. At All. In fact, it drove me to purchase the set again to settle into the wonderful world and philosophy of Dune. ... show more

I don't understand why there are so many poor reviews. These books are smaller in width but I think it's just fine. They come just as it looks in the picture. They also look normal with the paperback glue binding. The books being smaller is no disadvantage. I can actually hold it more comfortably with one hand while I'm reading. The size also doesn't affect my note taking in it either. If I can save $10 or more from ordering this set I think it's worth it. They look like fine for paperback books. ... show more

This is one huge hardcover that includes all the books. Some random typos though, including different spellings of the same character’s name
