  • Fits most feet and does the job
I never aerated my lawn before and with a decent size yard, I wanted something that wasn't going to take forever. These "shoes" slip over your regular shoes and fit good. You have to tighten them so they don't slip off or move around while you walk. They work good! I didn't have trouble with soil sticking to the underside, made the process alot quicker. I recommend getting a lawn chair in the grass, and use that to secure the shoes on. Then when your done, sit back down in the chair to remove the aerator shoes before walking on concrete. You will NOT be able to walk on concrete, so just be safe with these. ... show more

  • Great product, a few improvement ideas to consider
Like most homeowners with lawns in dry climates, I fight every year to keep my grass areas green while conserving precious (and expensive) water. I aerate with a core aerator annually but that's not produced the results I'd hoped for. I have a "spike" aerator that I use by hand in small areas but was intrigued by the idea of spikes on my shoes potentially speeding up the work and encouraging more frequent aeration. This set of "sandals" really helped. I had hoped that these aerator sandals would be something I could just wear when mowing the lawn each week. Drop that idea - using these requires a walk more like marching than walking. Using these strap on sandals requires lifting your feet almost straight up after each step so it is not a natural pace. The manufacturer even cautions against trying to use a lawn mower while using these. On the other hand, when used on a recently watered lawn (not soggy), you can get very deep penetration and cover a large area pretty fast. It takes just a few minutes to get the stepping technique down and then your progress is solid. The sandals come without the spikes being installed but the installation is very easy with the accompanying tool. There are "latches" in the sandal base that secure the spikes - no screws or other fasteners required. Installation took just a few minutes. I really liked the rear ratcheting strap mechanism - just push the rear strap in and ratchet to the desired level of snugness. One button release works great. The front strap retention fitting is not as elegant - it's a push-through and doesn't work anywhere near as well as the rear latch. The aerator also came with a very, very cheaply made (weak) "Stainless Steel Shovel" with serrated edges on one side of the blade. It is so flimsy as to be near useless. If I were advising the manufacturer on how to improve their product, I'd drop the shovel and use any savings to put the same kind of ratchething strap retention fitting that is on the back of the sandal onto the front as well. ... show more

  • Work well – a fun way to aerate lawn
We have heavy clay soil and higher traffic areas seem to compact easily. When I saw the Roloxye aerator shoes I wanted to see how they work since they seem to be a good solution for the summer where you don’t want to pull plugs out of the lawn, but still need lighter aerating. Installing the spikes was quick with the provided tool and it is easy to adjust the straps to most shoes. Using them in dry clay soil is quite interesting since you can feel where the soil is more compacted and where not. Initially, I was slightly concerned that I may have an issue with the spikes in very hard soil, but they have fared very well even though I stepped on one buried rock. With our soil, this way of aerating is definitely not quick, and it gives you some workout. However, I like that the holes created are small enough to allow more water and air penetration, without creating plug holes that would dry out the soil more during the hot summer months. Plus, the shoe attachments are small enough to easily store and keep them handy, so you don’t feel like you have to make it an all-day project but can aerate sections as you go. ... show more

  • Broke on first use
The front strap broke off a few minutes into first use. Returned.

  • Sharp but clips are small
These aerator shoe clips are easy to install and setup. There's an included tool to install the spikes to the shoes, however they are not able to be uninstalled. The spikes are sharp and work flawlessly while the shoe clips are a bit tight with larger shoes. If wearing as only shoes, a bit uncomfortable but the straps fit fine. ... show more

  • Absolutely ingenious
I stumbled across these while looking for a tool to aerate my lawn. I thought, "What a great idea!" And it is! I couldn't wait to try them and they work great! I'm really impressed. Not only by the idea but how well they work and how easy they are to put on and take off and also how snug you can make them so they stay on your shoe'd feet. The spikes are about 2 inches long and the slip-ons seem to work best when you go slow and raise your foot straight up a few inches in the air with each step so the spikes come out of the ground easily. They were a joy to use. I know that sounds corny, but they are really a great idea! Very well designed and made! I highly recommend for anyone who doesn't have a huge yard (I have about 700 sq. ft.) and just want to aerate their lawn themselves without having to pay someone to do it. ... show more

  • Perfection for your yard
Wow these aeration shoes are wonderful!!! It did not take me long to put them together after I read the directions. First I put the spike in backward, but after I looked at the pic I realized I had the first spike in backward. I put the spike through the top side of the shoe and you are supposed to put them in on the sole of the shoe with the point facing you and use the T bar to spike into the sole of the shoe. After I figured that out it went pretty quick. I put them on and it reminds me of putting on ski boots. I walk my backyard and aerated good part of it. These shoes are worth it!!!! ... show more

  • Deep dig, just very awkward
My lawn is very firm so I thought I'd try some walk-around spikes to help aerate it. These are just okay; I found it very clumsy to walk with these on, and I lost a couple of spikes within the first 30 minutes. Like others have mentioned, you have to step very deliberately, and even then it's hard to keep going. I just think there are better options to keep your lawn aerated. ... show more
