This is a thin, blousy, pirate kind of shirt I bought for Scarborough Fair (Ren-fest kind of thing). It is sheer enough that it is considered see through, but very airy for warmer weather. I typically wear a large and this was definitely larger than I expected. I could have gone at least a size smaller (medium) but it was still good and actually, great for the price. The belt is narrow and wraps around once with over a foot of extra leather to tuck under and hang loose. There were plenty of extra holes for the buckle to engage so that was good, too. I did replace the white shoestring with leather moccasin laces to make it more authentic looking. I washed on permanent press cycle and air dried... no issues there. ... show more

Just about exactly what I expected. I'm a 44 inch bust, 38 inch waist, and while I usually wear a men's large, I went for the medium and I'm glad I did. It's still plenty oversized but I'm not absolutely drowning in it. A couple notes: The fabric is synthetic. That's okay with me - as much as I'd prefer actual cotton or linen, the quality is fairly good and I have no doubt the wrinkles visible in the picture will fade after it's washed. It's also quite thin, but I think just opaque enough to be able to get away with a black bra and no tank top covering it. The sleeves are pretty long, and the elastic at the wrists is not quite strong enough to keep the cuffs from sliding over my hands. It's a pretty easy fix, but I think it's worth noting. The manufacture of the shirt is about average for Amazon, with some loose threads here and there and a pretty light stitch all around, but the seams are mostly quite even and it doesn't feel like it'll fall apart on me. One nice touch - the ruffs at the wrists are shorter on one side than the other, meaning you still get a lovely dramatic ruffle without completely sacrificing the use of your hands. I ordered the version with a belt, mostly since it was in stock. The belt is a perfectly nice-looking pleather, and is perfectly adequate to go around the waist as an accent, but I'd never wear it to actually hold up pants. ... show more

I'm 5'5", women's size 8 on top, size 12 on bottom. I ordered an XS and it fits perfectly! The front goes a few inches below the tops of my legs, and the back just covers my rather generous behind. Flowy, slightly sheer (you can really only see undergarments if you're looking), and super comfortable. Well made. Unlike the other review, the cuffs on mine weren't backwards. The belt is costume, but fairly thick like leather and not flimsy or kinked like thin plastic costume belts. The laces are nice- thin leather thongs, plenty of length. I see a lot of people hating on the fabric, but I like it. It's got a bit of shine to it, but not like cheap poly. It has a natural- looking variegation to the weave, like a glossy crepe. You can tell who the savvy experienced people with nothing to prove who want to keep in the spirit of things as they wear something like this. This shirt is ideal if you're assembling your own pirate outfit like I did. The lace front allows you to ventilate (and show your hairy chest). It's loose-fitting and long, so you have to tuck it in. I'm using a sash to keep the bottom from sagging (and a sash looks good on a pirate). I understand now why Capt. Jack Sparrow runs with his hands up. It's not to look purposefully girly. It's because those frilled cuffs get in your way, and you often have to hold your hands above your elbows. Takes a little getting used to. If you wear a topcoat like a pirate, you can always tuck 'em in a bit, or you can fashion some sort of garters at the wrists to hold them back a little. ... show more

This item does run big. Even for Mens. I bought a small and the neck is too small to lace up all the way. I bought two for a costume. It’s also see through if you purchase the white. Otherwise it’s perfect for a pirate or period piece costume

Fabric, size, fit were all exactly as advertised. Absolutely trust the size recommendations, I usually wear a 2x due to my broad shoulders and belly and I was terrified to go down that many sizes but the large fits perfect. Yes it is a touch sheer but thats expected with this type of shirt, and the sleeves are huge but then again I have very short arms and this is also part of the design.
