This thing is about perfect for kayak fishing. Good size net without being too big and it has a short handle that has a little bit of extendability. You have a cord with magnet and clip so you can secure it to keep it from falling overboard. Other than kayak fishing it's also a decent stream net. The magnet release is nice so while you're fishing on a stream you can have it slung over your back and quickly release it when you need it. It's a little bigger than your typical stream net which isn't always necessary ideal but I'd say that's a little bit of a trade-off and it's not so big that it gets in the way all to much while hiking/wading down streams. Also not as pretty as your typical wooden stream net but it has more features and on the plus side of it being bigger it can make it easier to land fish. We do catch and release. This net has 3 great advantages 1...the silicone net is easy on the fish, it does not harm the protective slime of the fish 2. fish does not become tangled up in the net. 3. The fish cannot see the net, and caster to net. Traditional string nets, harms the fish, their fins, and gills get stuck in the net and many times the fish has to be untangled from the net. I’ve used this type for years and will never use anything else. Bought this for grandson. It will bring him a lifetime of memories on the water. Price is better than going in store. And hard to find in sporting goods stores here in Alaska as they are first to go. ... show more

it's not ultra light but it's better than the tiny mesh nylon net which would snag the hooks netting fish for release.. btw I started using barbless hooks regardless.. I think it's a good deal.. I didn't het a magnet hook thingy .. i just use the old one i had.. still think it's a great upgrade.. I know when it's time to upgrade and this definitely is an upgrade from experience ... show more
