  • Great Study Board! Highly Recommend for the price.
Color: Orange
I purchased this board looking to be able to play my chess.com games on a real board, and it worked great! There's some information you need to know before you buy: Pro: The Price. For about $150 you get everything you need to be able to use this as a full Bluetooth keyboard with all the functionality that typically goes into that. Other boards can cost thousands, and there really isn't one in this price range. The cheapest is typically in the $300 range. Features that look like bugs: They had to make design choices to sell this at $150, primarily making it smaller, and marketing it as a travel board. I've seen videos where people have held the board upside down and that isn't true. The magnets are not as strong as other magnetic boards, and I would not try to play this on a crowded bus, or anything that's going to jostle around. The pieces are also cheap plastic (again to keep the price down). I purchased replacement pieces and they were better quality (and only another $11- my plan was to 3D print ones and swap the chips inside). That being said, I have come to LOVE the travel size. It fits perfectly on a table, where you can also have your coffee, your tablet, a book, and snacks. I've used this every morning so far, and it's nice that it doesn't take up the whole space. The set up was pretty easy. The instructions it comes with are useless. Just download the chestnut app, use the bluetooth button in the app to connect the board, and hit play online to connect to your chess.com app. I think this board is mis-marketed. I think its marketed as a travel board because of its size, but I would call it an amazing study board. It allows you to have your books, tablets, whatever on your desk and play through your favorite apps. The response time with the interface is fast, the LEDS are hidden when off, and easy to see when they light up. If you're looking to learn chess, this is a great way to interface with the digital chess apps/community in a physical/traditional way. My only feedback to the company would be that the case was too nice. I don't see myself traveling with this board, and so I would have rather seen that money go into a little heavier pieces, or better magnets. I think its a great study board, and most the reviews it feels like thats how the higher end players are using it as. I'm very low on the totem pole, and just looking to learn. ... show more

  • By far, the best smartboard deal you can buy!!!
Color: Grey
I own the EVO which I love. But, I wanted a smaller chess computer/board with the ability to record my games as transferable pgn files for analysis. The EVO was too heavy and large to play in bed while my wife sleeps beside me, so I ordered the Go. What a GREAT DEAL!!!! The price is amazing compared to other smart boards. The build quality is excellent and doesn't feel cheap at all! It's the perfect size for travel and for late games in bed. The LED's are nice and bright and are easier to see than on the Air due to the smaller size. I love how flawlessly this board works with the app. The Chessnut app for Android is like the EVO which has the career mode which is my favorite. The other Chessnut app (not Android specific) seems to be missing the career mode. I love everything about this board, however, on mine, the strength of the magnetic pieces is not as strong as what I've seen on YouTube videos. But, it's adequate. This is the best smartboard for the money and would make a fantastic first chess computer or gift as long as the user has a smartphone to run the app. It truly is amazing and as with all Chessnut products, it runs smoothly with the app with no frustration. It's a joy to play on! I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • A great chess e-board in so many ways!
Color: Orange
Although I was not a happy camper when the initial order was lost despite literally 5 notices from Amazon to the contrary, they made up for it by offering a replacement product and getting that product to me promptly. The Chessnut Go is fantastic everything that others have said - portability, great case, fully featured e board. Unlike some others I find the chess piece size fine. Games against the app’s bot are saved to the board and easily exported (I copy paste to iPhone’s email) to chess software eg Chessbase. I haven’t figured out yet whether chess.com games can be similarly handled (a bit easier to handle than exporting from chess.com on the PC) but it’s not a big deal. PS Figured it out, it’s simple - use chess.com iPhone app to email the game and pick it up on the PC which has Chessbase installed. Very highly recommend! ... show more

  • Nice to play on a board instead of my phone
Color: Orange
Really convenient size and easy to carry. So far, it’s been enjoyable to use and I like playing on a board instead of a screen. Setup was easy too.

  • Cheap feeling. No magnets. But the digital features are pretty solid.
Color: Grey
Everything works as it should, except for the magnets. I made the mistake of thiking that this had magnetic pieces and it surely does not. Don't try and move the board much while playing, your game will get really messed up. The value for money is pretty low in my opinion. The Air is only slightly more expensive and the quality is vastly superior. This feels like a dollar store travel chess set, but the added functionality of online and bot play is great. Now, the bots in their app are kinda crazy. Even on the lowest setting the bots make basically 100% perfect moves. I play at a 1100-1200 ELO range, and there isn't a bot that is "easy" for me. I like the stretch, but if you're a 800 or 1000 player, I wouldn't expect to get better playing these bots. You'll lose so fast that it's pretty frustrating. ... show more
