The AC compressor pressurizes refrigerant gas, which moves to the condenser. The gas releases heat, condensing into a high-pressure liquid. After cooling, the liquid passes over evaporator coils to cool the air as it is blown through the vents. What are the signs the system needs service? Common indicators of an air conditioning system in need of service include warm and/or weak airflow through the vents, frequent on/off cycling of the system and a strange or musty odor. Is the puddle of water under my car a sign of AC problems? Not necessarily. Condensation typically builds up on the AC evaporator and the water is drained at the bottom of the vehicle.
