This was a great purchase. bought it for a 4th grader. went to rent it and it was $250 for 10 month + they wanted deposit & credit check!!! so decided to buy one paid around $235 for this and so far it's been wonderful. everybody asks my son where he got it from and i have been directing people to Amazon. already worth it as i spend $15 less than the cost to rent and it looks like this will last for very long time. Good middle school band. Sound quality is very good and the craftsmanship is pretty good as well. I would definitely recommend this if you don’t want to rent and are not ready to invest in a pricey instrument yet. My son really likes his.

I am the parent of a 6th grader (my third kiddo) who started band this year. As I am also the parent of two other previous band students, I can say there is literally nothing more infuriating to me than that instrument rental sales pitch (scam) at the start of beginning band. For the price of a four month rental contract, we bought this saxophone in brilliant red. We are very happy with it and so is her band director. We have had no issues at all. We did purchase a separate set of #2 reeds since this came with 2-1/2s and the 2s are supposed to be easier. My kid sees no difference between them so don’t bother. If she continues to play through high school we might consider a higher quality horn at some point...or maybe we won’t. This thing works great and appropriately school age cute and “individualized”. She’s first chair so so far, so good.

After a bad experience with the local music shop with a different child, I tried an online instrument for my older son. He is in 9th grade now and still plays his hundred dollar trumpet in marching band. I bought this red sax for my 5th grade son. He loves it. He is always first chair. Take a chance on the less expensive instruments because some kids will decide band isn't for them. You are helping them discover their love of music.

I was pleasantly surprised how well it plays it's not a Selmer or Yamaha but I have giged with right out the box the mouthpiece and reeds that come with the horn are awful quickly throw them away I'very been playing for 30 even professionally not a bad back up horn

My beginning sax player in middle school loves this red sax. The paint quality is better than I expected and it had everything my son needed. I can't speak to the sound quality of it, because I have nothing to compare, but my son did sit in the first chair for his band concert.
