I purchased the dark blue bordered by black GW-101. It is a pretty little guitar, that came very securely packaged. I'm used to the size now after a few weeks, but it is tiny in a very cool way. Even compared to the Ibanez Mikro, which I have, it is noticeably smaller. Like some of the other reviews, the tuning machines felt dry and choppy when turned. The one screw per machine at the back of the headstock were all loose, and the chrome nuts at each of the 4 string poles were loose. I tightened the screws on each tuning machine and tightened each of the chrome nuts. I lightly sprayed each pole w/WD40 Dry Silicone. Also lightly sprayed the joint where the turning peg meets the tuning machine. Each tuner is now very smooth and stable. Tuning the bass no longer feels choppy or inconsistent while turning the pegs. Pickups: They wouldn't raise at all, so I simply unscrewed the 4 screws per pickup, gently removed the pickups and saw that there wasn't enough foam to allow the pickups to be raised higher to the strings. That was an easy fix. Glarry uses the dark gray/black insulating foam as a riser for the unit. They simply didn't use enough of it on each pickup. Fortunately, I had some of the exact same foam and I cut it to size and was able to raise them to proper height in a few minutes. (You can get that foam at Ace/Home Depot/Lowe's etc. and it is cheap). The nut: Not bad initially and understandable for such a quickly produced, inexpensive instrument. The G string sat too high on the nut and was pulling 1st fret G# note sharp as a result. Same thing with the E string, it sat a little too high. I loosened all the strings without having to take them completely off the bass and filed the nut grooves on both of those strings. Another easy fix. At this point, with a nice stable neck needing no truss rod adjustment, the string height being correct on each string at the 6th fret, and the nut being properly cut, all I had to do was get the individual saddles to correct height and length for intonation. That is an easy thing, but just a little time-consuming. Impressions: This little bass is exceptionally easy to play. The neck is quality and supports accurate intonation with a little fun and easy work that most, if not everyone, can do in setting up the bass. The pickups sound good!!! They are inexpensive, and passive, but I like the tone. Plus, I was expecting there to be 60-cycle hum noise, and that has NOT been the case for me. There is a little noise at full volume and the bass being within less than a foot from my Ashdown and GK amps, but that has been the extent of the 60-cyle hum. Once you move away from the amp, it is very quiet... Thankfully. For what it is, I give this GW-101 5 stars. My only complaint would be the output of the pickups. They don't have the volume level of more expensive basses, so you have to adjust your amp's settings accordingly. They probably don't have quite the dynamic range of a passive Fender Jazz bass, either. How could it though, being an $80 to $90 bass? However, look at the YouTube videos of Ellenplaysbass, and other very good bass players fiddling around on this thing and they make this bass sing with a pick, fingerstyle and slap. Rightfully so, they convey high opinions of this bass. If one likes short scale or mini scale basses, this is a good addition to their stable. I could take this bass out to gigs. This guitar 36" bass, arrived quickly. Tune up was fast and it stays in tune. It is a little rattly, but I appreciate the low action. The bass is well constructed, very heavy and has two pick ups. I like the grainy wood look and pink paint job. The volume is low, so I might do something about that. I really love it for $82.95! ... show more

I'm a guitar player and I dabble in home recording. After checking out some YouTube video reviews of this bass, I was convinced that this could be useful - both for laying down bass lines and just for the pure joy of rocking out on bass. Since the length of the neck matches most guitars, the transition from guitar to this bass is simple and free from the frustration I find with a full-size bass. Mine was playable right out of the box, but with some attention paid to the string height and intonation adjustments at the bridge, it's pure joy. I did some filing on the fret ends to make the neck more comfortable, but overall, not bad - especially for the price. I like the body shape - one that is a bit more exotic than the typical P-bass copies that are found in this price range. The body is contoured and very comfortable and well-balanced whether playing sitting down or standing with a strap. The matte finish is cool, and the wood grain shows through. I'm confident that this instrument will bring me joy for years to come. Highly recommended. ... show more

This is my 4th Glarry bass . Out of the box they just need a little setup but you can get them tuned and action lowered very easily . They are very solid and amazingly nice little bass guitars . Since I play 2-3x month I do change the strings , bridge and tuners to a better quality and then they sound amazing and can be tuned and intonated perfectly all the way up the neck . The pickups are very hot and sound great but they are single coil so you definitely get the coil buzz when turned up . Since I do play out I have replaced 2 of the basses with EMG JV-HZ solderless pickup kits . Perfect drop in size and Zero buzz at full volume and sound amazing . Yes for all the money I could buy a better bass but I love the way these little basses play and feel . For the money they are unbelievably wonderful basses !! Thank you . ... show more

This is not a good starter bass. Everything is done the cheapest way possible: Nothing is set up or adjusted in any way so unless you do setups yourself you'll have to have a luther do it which may cost more then what you paid for this thing in the first place. The fret ends are just cut and not dressed in any way so they'll cut your fingers, The bridge is terrible. The nut is too high. The pickups are terrible, thin and tinny. The electronics are terrible and have to be redone. The tuner machines are loose so they come out of tune easily and are not installed at an angle like in the product picture so the the bass cannot be properly zipped into the bag it comes with. That said, what is this thing good for then? It's a decent base (the body, neck and frets) for a short-scale project bass if you have the skills and tools to do it. Basically it's the equivalent of an old school Indian or Harley Davidson Motorcycle rebuild project, so that to get a working bass that you're happy with, you're going to have to put in some work and money into it. Please don't buy this for your kid as their first bass. ... show more

After watching many reviews online for the Glarry bass, I decided to get my own! I absolutely love this thing. It's so cute, but very solid. I mean, this thing is heavier than the full scale bass I had!! I haven't plugged it into an amp yet, but I am enjoying it so far. I also purchased the fret note stickers and a new strap as the one that came with it is....well...cheap lol overall, VERY impressed with this $80 bass!!! ... show more

This is how I received my "high-quality material" bass. As soon as I took it out of the box, I realized the neck was broken. Unusable. By the way, the seller never agreed to send me the actual purchase invoice. I do not recommend buying from this seller.
