  • Not for the whiny gamers.
First off if you're a forty year old gamer that sits in your parents basement and play games all day and night you probably won't like this game. It's not really for you anyway. I am not a gamer but am a huge gi joe fan. And at one time a super collector. It made to look and feel like a combination of comic, cartoon, and a game. And it pulls it off great. And of course people won't like it because it is not aimed at them it is aimed at the fans who have always wanted to play as cobra commander attacking the uss flagg. ... show more

  • Fun and nostalgic
While this isn’t the best game in the world it’s certainly fun enough to play and it’s very nostalgic. I do wish it was open world and had more weapon options.

  • Knowing's Half the Battle!
GI Joe Operation Blackout is a fascinating release because I can see why it gets such a wide range of reviews. If you are looking for a state-of-the-art over-the-shoulder shooter, this will probably leave you wanting. It is not going to blow you away with cutting-edge graphics or gameplay. If you love GI Joe on the other hand, you might think this game is the best thing since the GI Joe Arcade Game. The game does a lot of things right. You get to play as a number of GI Joe and COBRA operatives each with two different weapons. That is cool in and of itself. You can exchange out weapons for ones that you find. Each character has specific strategies related to their weapons. There are somewhat bland driving sequences with you piloting a HISS or Persuader tank that provide a little break in the shooter action. You get to unlock cool costume alternates and gun designs. The first few levels betray the quality of the later levels because they are straightforward and unimaginative. However, if you play this deep enough, the level designs are cool and challenging. The graphics are good enough. On the other hand, the sound is terrific with a score that draws elements from the music of the TV show. All in all this is better than average and actually a lot of fun. If you like GI Joe, it's even better. It's definitely worth a try and I had a blast playing it. ... show more

  • Gi joe fans would love this video game
Game is fun. Fun to play with the kids. Just thought the game would be much better then it was. But for the price it is a very decent game especially if you’re a GI Joe fan.

  • GI Joe finally gets a video game!
Awesome game with more depth and customization than you think! Tons of classic GI Joe characters with a modern flair. The graphics are great for portable and the gameplay is fluid so far ( 2 missions in.)

  • Joe fans only
This is a must for Joe fans. Switching between the Joe's and Cobra's is a lot of fun. I just wish it was longer.

  • Underdeveloped, no polish, zero fun
Look, there's no way to write a bad review without sounding like a jerk, so before I get into it let me just warn you - don't buy this. I'll go into detail below but that's all you really need to know. Skip this game. There's probably something that could have been a good game here but clearly development was under-funded or disinterested because what they released feels like an incomplete PS2 game. Audio mixing is terrible, some voice lines seem to be chopped together random words cut to milk more lines out of the actors than they actually intended to record somehow. The game feel is terrible with no feedback for success, damage, or the (lack of) excitement of combat. Guns sounds more like those spring-loaded rockets some figures came with rather than G.I. Joe cartoon lasers and explosions. Gunplay is uninspired pointing and shooting with no modern mechanics short of an extremely lackluster "Ultimate" ability because someone on the production team probably heard about Overwatch. Ultimates are both highly ineffective and absolutely uninteresting. Fighting against a named character such as the first fight between Storm Shadow and Duke is a bullet soaking joke, with no knock backs, stuns, special boss fight gimmicks, or creativity what so ever. He has health, you shoot him, his health goes down. You can't even feel like a ninja playing Storm Shadow and going hard on the katana because... the katana sucks. A lazy, uninspired and all too quiet music track loops the expected kind of songs for a game like this. Nothing that conjures up childhood nostalgia though, it's there, when it's there, because it has to be and sometimes it can't even be bothered to do that. I played this on Switch so it looks... fine? Acceptable for the console but terrible by all other standards and never *good* - never does it feel like I'm super immersed in a cartoon or comic book world, instead the environments are just all around uninteresting like most of this game. Game Mill is an aptly named company, churning out some of the worst trash of this generation with Nickelodeon Kart Racers and Zombieland Double Tap, so none of this is a surprise. I think we'd all be better off if they went out of business. ... show more
