Description

Award-winning author and master of adventure Will Hobbs delivers a breathless mystery that will have readers on the edge of their seats! After a sailing ship breaks up on the rocks off Washington's storm-tossed Cape Flattery, Nathan McAllister, the fourteen-year-old son of the lighthouse keeper, refuses to believe the authorities, who say there were no survivors. Unexplained footprints on a desolate beach, a theft at the trading post, and glimpses of a wild mystery man convince Nathan that someone is hiding in the remote sea caves along the coast. With his new friend, Lighthouse George, a fisherman from the famed Makah whaling tribe, Nathan paddles the fierce waters of the Pacific searching for clues. And once alone in the forest, Nathan may have found some: a ghostly canoe and a skeleton that may unlock the mystery of ancient treasure, betrayal . . .and murder. This thrilling middle grade adventure from Will Hobbs, a former teacher and the author of beloved books such as Far North, was chosen for Georgia's Children's Book Award Masterlist. Great book for young and old. Lots of detail and history make for an exciting mystery.

  • Great Book
I am a 64 year old Will Hobbs addict. He writes about all my favorite places and this is one of them. His stories are fun, but his facts are totally accurate. I had just researched Neah Bay when I read this story and found all kinds of facts, I hadn't previously known. I read these books between heavier tomes and I love to give them away. This guy is great. ... show more

  • GhostCanoeGreatMystery
Great mystery and suspense for ages 8-12. Story was pretty easy to follow but there was always something exciting happening so it never got boring. They even gave clues along the way so the reader could try to figure out the mystery before the author told more of the story. Good level of vocabulary so it was challenging but not too hard to understand. Great book for kids grades 5-7 who love ghost stories and mystery books! ... show more

  • just a all around good adventure story of a young lad
This story has a lot of information regarding the northwest and the native people as well as the fishing and whaling of earlier days in that region. Very entertaining, just a all around good adventure story of a young lad.

  • Exciting, informative, a real page turner
This is a wonderful adventure/mystery set in a real location in North west Washington. The depictions of the Makah Indians is Educational and very interesting. I gave it to my 17 year old grandson who enjoyed it very much. I found it to be a page turner and really want to go visit the actual locale.
