  • Sturdy and versatile
I originally purchased this a few moths ago to cut some rounded shapes out of 3/4" white pine and it worked great. Recently I needed to cut a circle out of a steel electrical box cover, so I came to Amazon to look for metal cutting rod-like blades I thought I'd seen before. I couldn't find any, but one of the search results that came up was this saw. I read the description again and saw that the blades could be used on wood. plastic and metal. I was EXTREMELY skeptical, but figured I didn't have anything to lose by trying. I started with the same blade I'd used for my wood project (#2) and made no progress before the blade snapped. I then decided to try a finer toothed blade (#30) and was shocked to find that it cut the metal! Not only did it do so, but it took little effort. I cut about 1/2" and then the blade snapped. The metal cover and the blade got pretty hot, so I sprayed both with WD-40 before starting again with a fresh blade. It took a total of 5 blades, but I got the job done. 2 of the blades snapped when I moved the cover too roughly while positioning it, not from actually sawing. If I'd been skilled enough, I believe I could have cut the entire circle with 1 blade, as they did not seem to lose their edge at all before I snapped them. The saw itself is sturdy and seems well constructed to me. The frame has no flex whatsoever and adjusts smoothly, and the thumbscrews all hold securely. It definitely exceeded my expectations and is a nice addition to my arsenal of tools. ... show more

  • Small metal/wood cutting saw
I bought it for him, he wanted it, but hasn’t used it. It looks like it’s perfect as a craft saw. It said you could cut metal and wood.

  • Want to cut dovetails?? Don't fret. Buy this saw.
I am a handtool woodworker. This saw cuts cleanly through the dovetail waste in 3/8th inch hardwood in about 10 or 12 strokes per tail. For my money, you can't beat that for efficiency. This seems to be about the same tool as the $50 Rob Cosman fret saw, minus the hockey tape... seriously. I'm not paying 35 bucks more just for a handle wrapped in hockey stick tape. Oh that saw comes with just 12 blades. This saw comes with 144!! In 8 different tooth sizes. The largest is what I use for dovetails. I haven't tried in 1/2 inch hardwood yet, but 3/8th inch Cherry cuts like butter. 3/4 inch might be pushing the limits of thr tool, but I haven't tried, just a guess. Just be sure to put a lot of tension on the saw blade and take your time. Set the saw blade tooth direction so it cuts on the pull stroke. A tip to gain the clearance you need to cut dovetail waste is to take needlenose pliers and after installing the blade, twist each end 30 or 40 degrees, so the blade cuts on an angle. This allows the frame to clear the workpiece. The build quality is there. The saw blades are numerous and quite sharp. A great deal and this tool has found a place in my toolbox. @PalasWoodcraft on IG. ... show more

  • Outstanding quality for the price.
It's a very nice saw, much better than what I expected for the price. The frame is high quality and sturdy, everything locks into place tightly. I was concerned that with my weak hands I would have difficulty screwing the blades in tight enough, but I'm not having any issues with that. It cuts through thick copper wire with ease, I've also cut some small pieces of wood with it and that worked as well. I have not been particularly gentle with the blade (as I am just learning how to use it) and it still has not snapped even though I've cut through about 150 14g copper jump rings with it. That's passing through some thick, slightly work hardened copper wire 150 times in the hands of a complete beginner who has never used a jeweler's saw, and the first blade is still holding up. That's pretty impressive if you ask me. ... show more

  • Too oily for use.
It arrived quickly and was simple enough to learn how to install. My big complaint is the oil. I get that having some oil is nice. But the saw arrived coated in oil, handle and all. This made it hard to secure the wires, hold safety (hands kept slipping even after cleaning off the oil), and made it dirty with grime. The wires were also covered in oil, many of them were staining the case in yellow residue from the oil. Even the outsides of the plastic wrap was oil coated. Made everything a greasy mess. When trying to use the saw I broke several wires due to not being able to properly hold the saw because the oil. The oil was also splattering off the saw with the movements during use, making the crafting area dirty. Once I figure out the best way to get the oil off the handle I may change my review. But for now the oil was a big enough issue for me to lower the rating. Sending a small packet of the oil would have been more practical than coating everything. ... show more
