    • Generally worked OK, but with a few quirks
For the most part, the grommets and the setting tool worked well, although they could be a bit "fiddly". The two areas that gave me trouble were: 1) The cutting edge of the cutting tool in my kit was a bit asymmetrical, causing a lot of difficulty in that it didn't cut a full circle. It appeared there may have been a manufacturing defect with that tool. 2) It was difficult to get the proper degree of "set" when crimping the grommets; although sometimes the result was good, quite often the grommet and backing were loose, but when pounded just a touch more to tighten them down, the curl would split. Also, in some cases, the curl came out a bit asymmetrical. I never did really get the hang of reliably producing a good result. Not sure whether it was me, or if the setting tools were not all that precise - or a bit of both. ... show more

    • Quality and function not up to par...
This is very reasonably priced but lacks somewhat in quality and function. The hole cutter use is a pain in that you first must use either a wooden or a hard plastic mallet, not in everyone's toolbox. But a workaround is to use another small wood block on top of the cutter along with a metal hammer. But not everyone has extra pieces of wood hanging around. And the cutter is not as sharp as it could be. But after a hole is finally achieved the punch and anvil do a good job. This is good for those that do an occasional repair or modification.     • Missing Parts (& Update)
I ordered and received one of the 1/2" Brass Grommet kits (item number 71264). The item was received on 09/08/23. I used the kit for a project on 09/09/23 and discovered that three (3) of the 12 grommet washers were missing from the package. Nine of the 12 grommets I needed for the project have already been installed, so I can't return the original order. I sent a product support request on 09/09/23 to the manufacturer for replacement of the three (3) missing 1/2" Brass Grommet washers so I can complete my project. Please note that the kit itself worked well for its intended use, hence the high marks for use, installation, and value. Depending on the response I receive from the manufacturer, I will update the overall rating if the requested replacement parts are received. UPDATE: I received a replacement shipment for the three missing grommet washers on 09/18/23. Great customer service, and I've changed the overall rating to five stars. ... show more

The very large wooden flag pole off the front of our Victorian is vintage. It does not have the modern flagpole amenities like tangle-free spinners, so we anchor our flags with a bit of rope at the bottom corner and tether it to the porch railing. Adding a grommet to the bottom corner of each flag was the upgrade we needed! The original method of tying the rope to the corner worked fine, but didn’t look as nice. Adding a grommet keeps the flag hanging with clean lines while still allowing it to wave a bit without damaging the flag. I chose this particular product because the enclosed grommets are real brass and will not rust, important for an item that will see a variety of weather. There may be better products on the market, but for something that I will use only occasionally, this worked a treat, and was under $10 including tax. Expect to use a good, heavy hammer with multiple sharp blows. You may need to tilt the grommet mallet a few times as you’re hammering to crimp all the edges. The grommet punch could be sharper. I had to trim every single hole with a pair of scissors, but it did the trick. This is my only complaint and the reason for four stars instead of five. ... show more
