I purchased my Generac GP6500 used for an extremely low price because it would not start. There were only a few hours on it. After making a simple Valve adjust, all of 20 minutes, the Generac starts on one, sometimes 2 starts depending how long between uses. By the way, I did use Lock-Tite as recommended by a small engine mechanic. If you look up the maintenance schedule, it talks about the valve adjustment I believe after the initial first 25 hours. A small engine mechanic can do this for you if you are not sure you can do it yourself. It should cost you no more than $25. If you do this, you should never have to do it again. I now have a boat load of hours and it still running top-notch. You won't regret keeping it. If I know I'm not going to use it for a while, I turn the petcock off while it's runing and let it empty the carburetor. ... show more

Bought it brand new 4 months ago. Electrician professionally installed circuit box and cable hook-up to my house and tested generator and system. Lost power today, engine wouldn't start and I smell a strong odor of gasoline. Obviously this Generac is worthless to me right now and the $2,500 of expense for generator and install was a waste of money in an emergency. ... show more

    • GFI trips when trying to keep Samsung refrigerator running. Buyer Beware.
I have a Samsung refrigerator with two ice makers and water in the door. FGI trip after a few minutes. Called customer service and they told me it was a problem with the 6500 model and nothing could be done to stop the GFI from tripping. Other wise the generator worked fine.

    • Do not buy. Won’t let you return if broken
This is unacceptable. Called the day we received it. Won’t let us return told we had to contact manufacturer. Would not give a manager or corporate number and hung up on us. DO NOT BUY I would have given 0 stars. Never again Amazon. 2nd high ticket item this has happened to us. Told to contact manufacturer. They never responded. ... show more
