  • I want to be happy but.... It's bad
I really want to like this router. It turned on and created a channel in plywood. Sadly it just didn't work well and cost a lot of time trying to cleanup the damage it did to the wood. As you can see in the image the results I have after a lot of time babying this router to clean up the deep cuts caused by guides not holding their positions. First attempt I had finger tightened the guides, the plastic plunge guide and the metal position guide. I tightened them as much as I could. As soon as I started using the tool I could see that the position guide was changing. It wasn't staying true to the line I had made with a large square ruler. Worse and unknown at that time it was gouging deeper and deeper because the plastic plunge guide doesn't have any grip on the tool and will move up or down depending on how you are holding the tool. I found out after lifting the tool to adjust the position guide. 2nd attempt I had tightened all the guides with pliers. Better they hold the position a bit more but still change just not as fast. I fixed some of what the first attempt had done but it turned out I had to stop, readjust the guides and go at least ten times to get the results you see in the image. Results the channel is routed with almost strait edges, but the depth is all over the place and deeper than I needed in order to fix the plunge depth changing as the tool was used. In the end I was quite frustrated with the tool. I was very surprised the metal position guide would not hold even tightened with pliers. This tool is not passable. The design is bad and until they redesign the guides to hold position I can't recommend it even for the simple job like I was trying to do. You risk hurting yourself using this tool. The on off switch is difficult to use while working and easy to bump on when your trying to adjust the guides for the umpteenth time. This forces you to unplug the tool to adjust the guides and then go back through the whole process all over again. Sadly it looks like most of the routers below triple digit prices have a similar design making me curious if they suffer the same problem. It's been decades since I had need of a router, but this has made me long for the days I could run down to Sears, grab a Craftsman and get a job done without all the drama this tool caused. Thinking back I think the last Craftsman router I had cost like $39 or something. Oh I miss those days. ... show more

  • Good trimmer/palm router for the price
I had some DIY woodworking projects on hold because they needed the use of a small router and I had none. I searched Amazon for something that would not break the bank, saw this kit, very similar to other kits in Amazon, but this one was 1. available, 2. came with some router bits, and 3. was reasonably priced. It did the expected job, but I had trouble with two things: a. No user manual; it comes with a safety manual, i.e. "Do not use under the rain" and other warnings. But no user instructions. Had to figure out what went where and also search the internet for videos (recommend you also do so if it's your first time using a router). b. The sleeve needs to be thight, so the bit cuts at the right height, and from all that tightening and releasing to adjust, the nut that is encased in the sleeve stripped. Luckily it did not damage my work, and I found a better-quality nut that fit. These things aside, I got what I expected for the price. ... show more

  • You would get better precision holding a chicken by its legs
In fairness this does work once you figure it out. You MUST torque down both the depth nut and bit holder or it will get away from you. Tends to jump even going a snail pace. If you got the money buy better otherwise take your time with this

  • Good for beginners!
Great tool for the DIYer. Easy to use. Instruction manual could use a little work and the wrench are pretty light weight but about what I expected for the price.
