  • Perfect replacement for 1997 F150 4.6 w/AC
After viewing some YT videos, I was convinced this was a 5 minute job. Well, not quite 5 minutes in my truck, but not the belt's fault. The spacing between my fan blades and the belt tensioner 1/2" hole for the wrench couldn't have been more than 3/4", making it nearly impossible to get the wrench in place. I was finally able to get the wrench seated, about half-way into the hole, then used a pipe slipped over the end of the wrench for leverage. Being very careful to keep all fingers out of any pinch points, since I was confident that the wrench might not slip out of the hole, I popped the old belt off. Thirty seconds later the old belt was completely out of the engine compartment. I compared old and new belts for size before installing the new one. They were spot-on, although the new one didn't have any cracks like the old one. Installing the new belt required pushing it down between the tensioner and AC pulleys, then crawling under the truck to loop it around all three pulleys. Getting it fully back on then required the 1/2" socket and leverage bar again, and carefully pushing the belt over the last pulley. It stayed lined up on all pulley's quite well, and the first startup confirmed that it was installed correctly. So, about 15 minutes later, and with a rather dirty shirt from all the climbing around over/under, the truck's now running great again, and no squealing sound to be heard. ... show more
