For several years the gate has been sagging and I was looking for a way to hold the door up so it wouldn't scrape the concrete driveway. The gate was very heavy so it needed some form of support. This Gate Wheel is probably a little overkill to perform this task but it works! I used to have to push up on the end of the gate in order to get the gate fully open. I figured that with the way it was scraping the driveway it would only be a matter of time before the wood on the bottom of the gate would start to splinter. It came with a wrench and two U bolts to attach to a metal gate post but my setup was a bit different. I added some wood to build out the gate and got stainless steel lag bolts since it would be outside. I used a hand truck slid under the outside bottom of the Gate to lift it up to give me about a half inch gap. I then mounted several 2x10 pressure treated scraps I had and installed the Gate Wheel to them. When the hand truck was released the Gate Wheel maintained the gap and now the gate simply rolls on that wheel easily. I never knew that such a device was ever made but when I saw it I knew it would resolve my issue.

As you can see in the picture, the wheel would make contact with the door when closing. This can be remedied by spacing it out with a block of wood, but it simply shouldn't be designed this way, in my opinion. Also comes with looped hardware instead of bolts, if you want to attach to a medal post, but would cause quite a bit of pinching stress on wood. It's very heartily built, quite heavy on the positive side.

Thsi is a super duty gate wheel. It is the most heavy duty one that I have come across yet. If you have a really solidly made wooden gate or just want a wheel that will be very durable then this the one you want.

We have gone through so many wheels for our metal gate; I can't even tell you. It's been incredibly frustrating because when they fail you have to drag the gate over the dirt to try to get it to open or close and it is exhausting. Right upon opening the package for this wheel; I could tell it is done different... DONE BETTER! The 360-Degree Rotating Spring Loaded Gate Wheel is super smooth in every twist, turn or roll. It moves & adapts to our bumpy, dirt & gravel terrain effortlessly. There's a spring mechanism that provides shock absorption, so the gate wheel glides smoothly. Every time! It is also Heavy Duty! Nothing done cheap here. I think this wheel is going to last a long time. What a relief! No more cringing when it's my turn to open the gate. 👍👍
