  • Great Watch! Hoping for some minor things next time...
Color: Mist Gray
This is really a great watch! The battery life is pretty great, the sensors are great for every day users, and the best part is how classy this watch looks. This watch actually works decently for fitness tracking. It is absolutely no replacement to a dedicated fitness watch like the 255 and 955, but even though it leaves me for wanting what those watches provide, it gives me more than I could have ever hoped for in its fitness abilities. Its sleep/awake tracking is scarily accurate. And its heart rate sensor is fairly good too. I do wish they had used their latest heart rate sensor because even though this is more accurate than many other devices out there, it still makes me question how accurate the reading is because I know it's not Garmin's best/latest iteration. Obviously if you are getting this watch though, it is mostly because of the design. And the design is precisely why I bought this watch and encourage anyone else with high taste to do the same. You will definitely want to get a classier looking watch strap than the one that comes with the watch, but the one provided with the watch works great for any fitness tracking you wish to do with the watch. I do, however, have a couple things that I really wish Garmin would improve. This watch is a different entry than the Garmin Style and Garmin Luxe, so I can forgive the plastic case to an extent. But a new watch with a gold/rose gold/silver/etc. case is long overdue. I like the design of this watch except for the plastic case (which still looks trendy, but not as classy as I would hope), but I still ended up getting this watch because the Style and Luxe are so outdated. I love the fact you can get notifications and even reply to notifications on-screen. I like the pre-set notifications, but I would like to see the ability to give full replies like my 7-year older Android Wear watch could provide. A speak to text option would be even better. These are options that I'm sure would be doable for a watch like this (so long as the microphone wouldn't ruin the design). My final suggestion would be to open this watch up to the app store. It has a full screen, and many apps and custom watch faces could still be added to this watch, even if they are more limited in options. In a perfect dream world, GPS, better battery life, and everything else that the 955 provides would be incredible to have in a watch like this, even if I had to pay more. But I understand the limits due to design, and I would prefer the design of this as a daily wearable over the 955 any day. But I will continue to use the 255 (eventually the 965 when it comes out) as my only fitness tracking watch when I receive it because it can do so much more. Hope this review helps! ... show more

  • A Perfect Blend of Style and Functionality
Color: Black
I’ve been using the Garmin vívomove Trend for about a year now, and I can confidently say it’s the perfect hybrid smartwatch for anyone who appreciates both style and practicality. Coming from a fully smart Fossil watch, I was looking for something with an analog look that still offers smart features, and this watch delivers! The battery life is impressive—I typically charge it every four days, and it lasts up to five days in smart mode, which is fantastic. The touchscreen is cleverly designed; it only lights up when needed, keeping the classic aesthetic intact. As someone with ADHD, the “Find My Phone” feature has been a lifesaver. I can’t imagine my life without it! On the downside, I initially wore it a bit too tightly and experienced some discomfort, but adjusting the fit made all the difference. Overall, the Garmin vívomove Trend combines health tracking, notifications, and a sleek design, making it a great choice for anyone looking to enhance their daily routine. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Very Happy with this watch
Color: Mist Gray
I previously had a 'W----' hybrid watch and it started to fail. To read messages, it puts the hands at '10 of 2' to avoid covering the display. Then, the hands will return to the time. This happens multiple times a day, and eventually the minute hand stopped syncing reliably. It got to the point where the minute hand had slipped and had to be position calibrated on a daily basis. This is a risk of a hybrid watch, but I do like having the hands, and bought the ivory Garmin watch with silver face. It provides much more display space that my prior hybrid and provides more extensive at-a-glance information than my prior one. When I discovered the Techie watch face, with Complication 2 (you'll understand once you buy one) my favor for this watch went up as it displays all I couldn't do on my prior watch. This watch sets the hand to 1/4 to 3 to prevent them obscuring the display. Good Things Comfortable. lightweight, unusual color scheme Display shows digital time, date and day, steps count, and percent power remaining Display is invisible when off, crisp when on, and good in sunlight Lasts about 5 days between charges Neat, simple display, no winder Touch screen to select features It counts steps generously! My prior watch would undercount steps (a known defect). I verified this with an independent pedometer after my sisters watch reported more steps than mine when we were out one day. I need to get the pedometer out to check this one, but suspect its' count is high. Not so good things While it reports when I receive a text, the hands go to 1/4 to 3, so you can't tell when the text came in! It keeps congratulating me for some achievement, but does not tell me what I unwittingly accomplished. The word Garmin is in gold at the 9 o'clock position. I've confused that with the hour hand..... The application takes a while to synchronize on the phone I do not favor the charging clip that has a jaw mechanism to grip the watch while attached to a power source. It claims to support non-contact charging, but when I tried it I couldn't get it to work. The application on the phone claims to estimate your fitness age and is shaming me by saying my fitness age is two years older than my actual age! Overall I think this was a good purchase. I have the watch hands I favor and all the information I'm interested in light up when I tilt my wrist. ... show more

  • Beautiful watch ruined by abysmal execution
Color: Black
This is perhaps the best-looking smartwatch on the market. In theory, the design is stunning, with a textured face behind which a completely hidden screen clearly displays digital information. It's truly beautiful, even if they went a little too far with the monochrome color scheme, making the hands hard to read in anything but bright light. And if it had worked as advertised, it would easily be five stars. I appreciate the designers making a smartwatch that doesn't look like a toy. Unfortunately, the engineering execution on this is abysmal. In addition to the poor visibility of the hands, the hands themselves continually get out of alignment. By the end of the day of using this, the minute hand was usually 5 to 10 minutes off, and I had to do a manual recalibration. Typical MBA-led company; For an extra $1 to $2 on the bill of materials they could have put a proper encoder on the hands that would have let them fix these kinds of errors, but to save a few dollars and some management bonuses, they cheaped out on what could have been a beautiful watch, and it's unfortunately functionally junk. I'll be returning immediately. UPDATE: I bought the Withings ScanWatch 2, and it's a night and day difference in quality. The Garmin feels and works like cheap junk, the Withings is solid and metal and much more accurate in its health measurements. It also takes more measurements than the Garmin, has a longer battery life, and isn't even that much more expensive. ... show more

  • Functional and stylish
Color: French Gray
Love it! Has a battery life of several days and can charge very quickly on the rare occasion I take it off. Value for money is incredible, it's lightweight, incredibly accurate, and easy to navigate. I love that it's durable enough to not have a single scratch while I wear it constantly, and it looks great with casual and formal wear alike. I was looking for a smartwatch that didn't look tacky, and this is absolutely it! ... show more

  • Stylish and worth the price
Color: Mist Gray
Love this watch! Purchased it to wear as a more “elegant” smart watch and it’s very stylish in person. Always receive compliments when I wear it. I do own a Garmin Forerunner 965 and this watch is definitely not as high the tech as the Forerunner, but it does its job. You can record workout activities, it tracks your heart rate and sleep, and many other things. The only downside is the battery life. It only lasts 3-4 days when wearing 24 hours a day, compared to 14 days with the Forerunner. For the price, it’s perfect! ... show more

  • Smartwatch features and sensors in a "regular watch" format, but useless as a regular watch
Color: Black
I'm interested in the hybrid smartwarch format, where a relatively normal watch is equipped with sensors for heartrate, pedometer (accelerometers), and O2 saturation, without being either a) something rectangular that looks like a miniature smartphone strapped to my wrist, or b) a giant thick chunky and knobby monstrosity like the flagship Garmin smartwatches. The vivomove line seemed to fit my requirements, with a set of traditional analog hands that put its identity as a watch foremost, and a screen that's "hidden" as part of the watch face, and which lights up only on demand. Despite some mixed professional reviews I decided to give it a try. What it does well is to keep the case format in the range of what you'd expect from a traditional watch. Round, not too thick, not too large-looking on the wrist, and overall unobtrusive and something one can wear to any occasion. The sensors are pretty good, but they get inaccurate (erratic) if the watch is worn loosely. As with any sensor-equipped watch, the sensors have to be in contact with the skin, so the watch has to be worn a little more tighly than some might prefer. The battery life is so-so. A traditional watch may last for years, or indefinitely (if it has kinetic or solar charging built-in), but on the other hand a full-on smartwatch might only have a single day of endurance. The vivomove's give up to 5 days, and the Trend has wireless charging, so it's not the worst compared to alternatives like an Apple Watch. The screen is clear, and I like how the mechanical hands move out of the way when interacting with the information, and in some cases the hands even form part of the information (like aligning to a graphed level/meter). Cute. The app is so-so (Garmin Connect is the same app one would use for any Garmin active connected product). It's not the best, but unlike some, no paid subscription is required to "unlock" any of the tracking/lifestyle features. The watch is unobtrusive, tracks sleep well if worn at night, can do everything I need in terms of tracking my workouts and bike rides, and overall checks many of the boxes that I got it for. However, where it falls completely flat is as a watch. Most color options for the vivomove Trend (with one exception) have mechanical hands that are the same color as the watch face. There's no contrast. A little bit of gray paint/highlight is applied to the outer portions of the hands, but it makes no real difference. In bright daylight or bright indoor lighting, the hands aren't glanceable, but at least they're visible. In normal indoor lighting, it's a struggle to see them at all, and the (for some reason) radially applied GARMIN logo at the 9 o'clock position competes with the hands and confuses the attempt to read the time. In twilight or darker indoor settings (e.g. watching TV), the hands are utterly invisible. Neither the hands nor any of the tick marks on the face have any luminosity in the dark. I find that for the most part, the only way to tell the time is to wake up the screen, and ensure that the selected digital watch face includes the "current time" as one of its "complications." Raising the wrist is supposed to wake the screen, but that doesn't always work, and tapping the screen also doesn't always work, so after several times where I've hard-tapped the crystal 5 times in a row to get the screen to come on, just so I could tell what time it is, I'm done with this experiment. So, overall, I've decided I don't like the vivomove watches and am already awaiting a replacement that does a better job at being a watch (Withings Scanwatch 2). I suggest, if you're in the market to try it, that you look very closely at the color options and try to find one where the hands aren't the same color as the face. The Trend has one option with a silver face and gold hands, so maybe go with that if you like those colors. I went for the black case with black face (and black hands), and wow, what a mistake. Haven't looked closely at the color options for other vivomove lines (Luxe, etc.), maybe one of those has better contrast. I noticed that at least one of the other lines (the Sport, I think) puts the GARMIN logo at the top, vs. radially, which would also be an enormous improvement. ... show more

  • Great watch, but some issues.
Color: Black
Honestly really liked the watch, it’s a smart watch but looks like a regular watch! Which is exactly what I wanted, Apple Watches are just squares and don’t have much to them, but tech. Garmin nailed it with hybrid watch. That being said I have it a 3 star because of how it was. Trying to calibrate it was terrible, it tells you to mark both hands at 12. However it would never be on time and it was behind by a minute or two. Enough to bother me. Also the display is very dim and hard to read in bright areas. On top of that my notifications wouldn’t always display on the watch. However I still would choose this over the Apple Watch if your going for a better style, time monitoring, step monitoring, and stuff like that. The only thing that bothers me about the time was the hands not being synced up perfectly. However the display does turn on and tell you the time anyways. I would attach a photo, but I returned the watch because of the hands bothering me and not syncing up properly. I’m hoping it’s a fluke and just got a bad one. I would buy another if that were the case. ... show more
