My 6-year-old son has been begging and begging for a Fitbit. When I found the vivofit jr. I knew it would be perfect for him and he absolutely loves every aspect of the band and app. The band itself is very small. It's fine for my 6-year-old, but my 10-year-old with very tiny wrists tried it on and it was too tight for him. We'd definitely need to get him a larger band if he gets one (which he's now asking for). As a parent, I am really enjoying the chores section of the app. I have struggled for years trying to develop a good chore system and this band and app have a built in system that have been effective for my son and I. He loves seeing the piggy bank on his band and knowing how many coins he has and figuring out how many more he needs to get a reward. It's been very effective in getting him to help more around the house and it's slowly becoming more routine. The adventure trail portion of the app is ok... He loves knowing that he gets to move on the adventure trail if he's been active for 60 minutes in a day and seeing what he'll learn about. Personally, it's kind of underwhelming but if it motivates him to be active, I am happy. I bought the first one of these for my older son almost 2 years ago. We have had to replace the battery twice but it is still going strong. It has survived going through the washer and dryer! The band will start to break at some point, you can buy Garmin brand replacements but I have found the generic ones on Amazon to last longer. We bought a 5 pack and he’ll switch them out. I just bought a second one for my younger son. Now that everyone in the family has a step tracker, we like to see who gets the most steps each day. ... show more

This is our second garmin kids watch. My 6 year old loves them. The battery on the first lasted almost 2 years! He never took it off. Wore it for baths and swimming. Great quality. And it fit his tiny little wrist perfectly. Down side - He is a very small 5/6 year old. Only 33 pounds. His wrist is very tiny, and the watch fits well without falling off. I think it could be tight on average size kids though. The mobile app isn’t super great. I’ve had several issues with it not loading and syncing. ... show more

We got this for our daughter, and it's the first watch she hasn't lost immediately. I love that it doesn't need to come off for showers or charging, because it actually stays on her wrist. She loves setting the timers for all sorts of random things, and it's great for almost all the features - steps, sleep, activity goals, adventures, etc. BUT the main selling point for me was the chore tracker, and it's really useless. They sell it as a "keep your flighty kid on track during the day" which is exactly what she needed. But the reality is that all she sees on her watch is a little thing that says how many chores she has completed and assigned. And she only sees that if she thinks to click through the watch options. In the parents' app, you can set up all sorts of great chores, even with which days and times they need to be completed. So you'd assume there would at least be some sort of alarm reminder that would chime to tell the kid to complete a chore, right? But there's nothing. IF she happens to remember that she should do some unknown chore, she would then need to ask me what the chore is OR hop onto a device to look it up (which I'm 100% sure would then lead to her getting distracted by some game or video). Then, if she does actually complete the chore, she'd still have to come to me to tell me she'd completed it, and I'd have to mark it as complete. Not helpful at all. Kind of worse than helpful, really, because it requires that we both stop being active and go back onto screens. So, Garmin, please either update this for future models or stop advertising this as being such a benefit. It's really not yet, but I think it could be someday. In the meantime, I wanted to warn other parents of very distractable kiddos. :) ... show more

I bought this for my tween daughter for Christmas. The features are a little young for her age, but she still likes it! She’s able to set an alarm, keep track of activity and sleep, the time and date... The app is nice too, but definitely better for younger kids. When you reach your activity goals you earn moves in a game. Oh, you can also set a chores list, which is great but the kids have to go on the app to check them off. The band is very stretchy but if it’s too tight there are many options for replacement bands. The battery lasted for 8 months before we had to replace it (1632 watch battery). She lost it at camp over the summer—I was able to call Garmin to have it flagged as lost/stolen. It does not have GPS so they couldn’t track it, but they said if someone ever tried to register or sync it they wouldn’t be able to. It was found about a month later—faded band and dead battery but still works! ... show more

My son received this for his 6th birthday and just loves it. He is always checking his steps and activity. He and his sister are very competitive, so they are always trying to outdo each other, which is a win win. LOL. My favorite part of this device is the motivation to do chores and earn coins to redeem for (parents choice). I actually heard my children fighting over who would clean up the playroom to earn a coin. My husband and I were dying of laughter. I can monitor how they slept at night if they wear it to bed (they never take it off). It's water proof also. The band is a little big for my 6 and 7 year old but they just wear it a bit higher up on their arm. No biggie. Room to grow. High quality. My son did scratch the face of the device pretty quickly. I'm regretting not buying the protector. Overall, amazing gift for my kids. They love it, I love it. I hope the motivations continue! ... show more
