Have this watch for over 6 month now. Great smartwatch! Been using Garmins for 15+ years. This watch is thin and comfortable. Really like the square form factor. Battery last 5+ days without wifi and with auto screen. Flashlight is awesome, use it every day when waking my dog :) The screen seems to be pretty durable, no scratches after 6 months of use. Missing Fenix buttons, especially up/down buttons to scroll in the pool. Touchscreen and water don't mix well. Had some issues with altimeter after the swims but Garmin issued update that seems to fix it. I now do additional start swim+discard activity to clear the port from water. Tracks pretty steady treadmill runs. Had some issues with Fenix but this watch is within .1 mi on 5mi treadmill runs after calibration. Maps are very handy on hiking and backpacking trips. Could use additional hardware buttons but pan/zoom definitely works better with touchscreen. Sleep tracking and body battery are pretty sport on. One significant cons is apps infrastructure. Not even close to Apple watch. I tried couple apps but find those hard to use and most are targeting other Garmin watches without touchscreen. So I just use my Android phone for apps. I'm mostly a Garmin fanboy but have had a handful of other smart/health watches over the years. This really is unlike any Garmin watch as far as very large, square face, the thinnest body yet, yet all the top tier features of the Fenix line (no ECG however, if you use that). The downside of the thin body is less battery life. It's stull miles better than a Samsung or Apple watch, but by Garmin standards, less. I had an Epix Gen2 and a Venu3, and I'd prob still use the X1 as my daily driver, as I wear it all day and overnight. Love the maps on the bigger screen, still has top notch golf functionality, all the activities you could possibly need, the led flashlight, good sleep metrics, advanced running and endurance and hill metrics (mean less to me than they used to, but some runners will love them)...just all the bells and whistles except the ECG app and I think the All Satellites GPS, but I only ever use the lesser resource hogging GPS anyway so no biggie for me. Great watch, love the big screen, and will tolerate less battery life. Im getting a few days between recharges, and that's will some activity each day, and often activity plus gps plus music function, which drains the battery the fastest on any watch. If you rarely use the GPS or run an activity, first off I doubt you'll want a watch like this anyway and just get a far less expensive Fitbit or the like, but on the plus side I bet you could get close to a week of battery out of it, just using notifications etc. ... show more

I had plenty of fitness watches over the last years from cheap Fitbits to ultra-expensive Garmin Fenix and Apple Ultra. I like big screen watches because I can see easily a lot of information at once at a font/digit size which is actually readable. The Fenix I owned had too many functions I never used and the screen real estate was not satisfying to me, and the damn weight. The Apple Watch Ultra is a solid watch but doesn't do anything really well. As a fitness /wellness watch it is lackluster and the smart watch functions feel half-baked on a screen size that is too small. Couldn't read anything without my reading glasses. The Venue X1 is perfect for me. I have big arms and wrists so the watch looks normal. The fitness/wellness functions are on-par with the high end Garmin watches and superior to anything Apple has on their watches. The screen real estate is perfect for me. The Amoled screen is gorgeous and very bright. I don't need the always on function so my battery life is 6-7 days with heavy fitness use. That's so much better than the Apple Ultra which gets barely 2 days with heavy use. I also very much appreciate it light weight. Who came up with the hideous idea that solid and rugged needs to be super heavy. The slim profile and light-weight of the X1 is nice if you use it as your daily driver and workout a lot. You almost forget that you wear it. The Apple Ultra and Fenix are way too heavy and thick and feel uncomfortable when moving your arm a lot. They also get stuck on gym equipment (handlebars, grips and wrist bands). Getting notification pushed to the watch is all what I really need as smart options. I don't care for music, cell connectivity wallet fucntion etc. I have my phone anyway always with me and the small screen of most watches make most smart functions obsolete. Price is a bit steep but I hope it will serve me well for a few years. I hope that Garmin will provide frequent updates for a couple of years as this $800 watch deserves. I wish that there were more watch faces and ways to change certain fields easily. The phone app seems not to support this in an easy to understand way. I’ve had the Fenix and Forerunner models in the past, and this is like a best of both worlds hybrid of both. It’s got a massive screen, super lightweight, and all of the premium Fenix features (outside of being dive rated). Sure - the battery life isn’t the best for a Garmin, but it’s a wonderful trade off for not feeling the device on your wrist. Throw in the flashlight, sapphire screen at the price point it’s at, incredibly hard to beat the value. ... show more

This is a difficult item to review. It is very complex and takes quite a bit of study to understand all the features. I have downloaded the user manual and have spent quite a bit of time watching YouTube videos in order to be able to use and understand the features I want. As with any smart watch, there are more features that I will never use than ones that I will use. I have sort of a love/hate relationships with smartwatches. It seems that most people use them as fitness trackers. I understand that to some extent, but I also question the ultimate value. For example, in the summer I do a road bike ride of over 20 miles and 2400 feet of vertical 2 or 3 times a week. Do I need a watch to tell me I am getting in shape or maintaining my fitness? Probably not. I do track my road and mountain bike rides with a Garmin cycling computer but that's really all I need. It does seem to be a good way to track sleep quality, but it seems that after a while I have a good idea of how I'm doing and the watch isn't really providing me with any new information. It's also unclear what action I should take if my sleep quality isn't what I want. I have learned that alcohol interferes with my sleep, but I already knew that. The watch does seem to do what it is intended to do with one glaring exception. It is incapable of monitoring my pulse. I have compared it to a chest strap while exercising and find that when the watch says my heart rate is 80, the strap says 140. My previous watch, a Pixel, was fairly accurate on heart rate. This problem cascades into at least one other measurement - Heart Rate Variability. I don't think it can assess HRV without accurate heart rate measurement. Physically, I love the watch. It is very thin and comfortable, with a large clear OLED display. Battery life is completely adequate for me, although some people have complained about it. I don't like the proprietary charging cable and wireless would have been better. Another issue is apps. Because it runs a proprietary Garmin OS, you can't take advantage of Android or Apple apps. I don't think this is a huge issue because watches have such small screens that most apps don't run well on a watch anyway, but it is something to think about in a purchase decision. Because it is so pricey, I feel that the heart rate issue should have been addressed. I have seen many complaints about it online and that is the reason I only give it three stars. I am trying to decide whether to return it but haven't made the decision yet. ... show more

This was bought to replace a very tired Garmin watch I have had for many years. It is a perfect replacement. I like the color options on the face of the watch. My tired eyes are making me strain a bit when glancing at the face. But this watch has numerous faces that will find you with multiple options to choose from. The band was surprisingly short, like when I undo the velcro (which I love!) it expands to the end of the strap. I am not a big human and this band barely fits of the spot between my wrist and where the base of my hand starts. Sometimes it actually pulls the band out through the band clasp part on the watch itself. A bigger hand would be hard to get it off. Set up was super simple, battery life is fine (I am using many features and still get a week per charge, no problem), and the heart rate monitoring ties right to my eliptical with no problem.... and the heart rate matches my chest strap almost exactly. ... show more

Overall this is a very nice watch but for $600 it’s lacking First it’s really nice features like monitoring SO2 levels and skin temperature. But to get it to regularly monitor, no constant monitoring, I really had to search the web to see even if it’s possible. Sure I have to recharge it twice a week instead of once a week but I needed the data. Secondly it would nice to add and edit alarms from the Connect app. Especially since it doesn’t connect any more to my iPhone for alarms. Blame Apple for their stupid 26 OS. I like the watch even though I have to twist my wrist two or three times for it to show me the time. There are nice watch faces with the ConnectIQ app. I found one that I like and the creator added all the features that I asked for. Which was really cool. It was called Tactix SC VX. Getting everything on one screen was great. Plus they added the ability to change the colors on the graph so that I could see it since I’m partly color blind.
