So when these first arrived and I felt the grips, they reminded me of a Harbor Freight item. The plastic grips are actually comfortable in your hand. The wood on the trowels and weeders are comfortable as well, so I was pleasantly surprised by them. Pros: The tools are much sturdier than I gave them credit for. I tried them in hard clay, literally TRYING to bend them and none of them bent or failed. All held up wonderfully. No welds broke on the weeder either, even prying as hard as I could. The saw is sharp, took 53 seconds to saw through a 3 inch branch. It also has a positive lock where I wouldn't worry about it closing on my hand ever. The release is easy to reach with one hand too. All blades are sharp and work well. Cons: the lock on the pruners needs some reworking. If you open it all the way (pic 2) then the blades don't open very far at all. It took me a bit to realize if you just turn it back a little bit, the blades will open further. This can be a pain as it is fairly easy to bump to the wrong spot and then you get maybe a 1/2 inch clearance. This is really the only downside of these tools. Worth it, unless you really need the pruners, then you might want to get a higher quality pruner to replace this one. All the other tools are amazing and will be used heavily in my garden next year.

Saw and cutter on solid and strong. Rest of the tools will definitely get the job done, but don't expect to do any heavy duty work with it. Over all a good kit.

AS our gardening activities have picked up pace this year, we figured digging holes with our bare hands was below us and it was time to get a few tools to help along (and keep the fingernails cleaner). This set seemed to be pretty comprehensive so it was ordered. The tools were individually wrapped in a nice box with a thank you card. It includes (sorry for not knowing the technical terms) a wide shovel, a narrow shovel (both shovels have measurement lines on them - metric I think), a rake thing, a pickle fork that I think is used for weeds and a trident for battles with other news teams. It also has a folding saw, a set of clippers and various lengths of line to tie stuff off. The clippers look pretty sharp so I've been keeping the line on hand in case I need a tourniquet. Anyhow the metal is pretty solid gauge so I don't foresee anything bending unless you really do something over the top, like prying up boulders or thick roots. Remember this is for your small veggie or flower garden, not planting a row of hedges. There is a little point protector for the pickle fork that I will probably wind up losing but for now it helps not to poke holes in myself. I've done some raking and digging in our garden with the tools and nothing has fallen apart so in that sense it's a neat little kit. The tools have easy to grip wooden handles with holes in them to hang up. I did not use the saw yet but the clippers made short work of some vines and stems that needed pruning. One thing about the clippers though, they really don't open all that wide so you may have to take a few bites at thicker stems. Long term issues I foresee (a) the metal will probably nick or tarnish or rust if the tools are left outside or not cleaned. (b) the finish on the handles may start wearing, (c) the handles may loosen from the metal tools. I imagine the saw will dull and the clippers loosen but honestly for a kit like this it isn't unexpected. Keep the tools clean, wipe them down and use some care in storage and I can see them lasting a good long time.

Out of the box, we were quite impressed with the overall quality and strength of this gardening tool set. My reaction on each of the tools is below. - Folding saw: comfortable grip, positive locking button, very sharp. I noticed that cutting PVC pipe was shown in one of the illustrations. I usually use a hacksaw with much finer teeth, so I suspect this saw would make short work of a pipe. But hacksaws I have, so I’ll keep this saw for pruning. - Pruners: comfortable grip, safety lock for closed and open. You do need to place the lock in the correct position to fully open the pruners, but that’s similar to most others I’ve owned. - Weeder: Frankly, I can’t imagine pulling individual weeds with this tool – there are too many of them in our gardens. But I did use it to pull some rusty old landscape staples from clay soil and it worked great. And for reference, I was using a pry bar on them before, so this little item can handle some stress. - Trowel and transplanter: solid with nice wooden handles. The depth markings are a nice touch for the meticulous gardener like my wife. I just dig holes and they work great for that, too. - Hand Rake: We have one, but I admit to liking this one better. The wider, flatter prongs on this one work the soil more quickly than the smaller, round ones on the other rake. - Hand Fork: If any of the tools in this set are going to break, I’d guess it will be this one. It feels lighter. But when I tried to flex one of the prongs, it didn’t give at all, so I may be wrong. - Gardening Thread: It’s basically small, coated wire. With the winds and violent storms we get, this thread may not end up being used in the garden, but there are plenty of other places where I can use it.
