I gave up trying to find bay rum with the scent of my grandfathers for under $60. I saw this and, after reading the reviews decided to give it a try, thinking well, if I don't like it, I can use it to wash my truck or the dog for that price. Was I surprised! It's not grandpa's but has a scent of bay rum with a hint of lemon. And, best of all it is super refreshing to splash on and doesn't leave an overpowering smell. It just FEELS GOOD and I love it! And best of all, my wife likes it!

Love the clovey smell and sensation on the face. Enough here to last me for years!!! First ran across this at a resort spa. The resort was closing doors, so I asked the attendant what brand of aftershave they were using so I could extend the experience after they were gone and he pulled out this big honking bottle of Gabels. The scent is quite a bit stronger than Clubman, & a better quality than Superior 70. It is heavier on the clove scenting and is quite bracing on the skin after a fresh shave. I find it to be equal if not superior to some of the more expensive aftershaves and it definitely has a more masculine scent than some of those overpriced "yuppie" themed craft aftershaves. If you want a decent aftershave that won't break the bank, I'd recommend Gabels. Try out a smaller bottle first to see if you like it.

I purchased a case of 8 oz bottles of Bay Rum direct from a Dominica Bay Rum distributor in Florida several years ago. I was very satisfied with the product I received. It finally ran out. Searching Amazon I found Gabels Bay Rum in a one gallon container. The price was almost too good to be true. Even though the shipping price to Alaska was more than the purchase price of one gallon from Gabels (we are accustomed to additional shipping costs) the numbers still rang out as an excellent value costing less than what I had purchased direct from the distributor in Florida. Here is the pleasant surprise. Today is the first day I've used the Bay Rum from Gabels. The Bay Rum I purchased from Gabels had the same scent as the Bay Rum from the Florida distributor but with less alcohol smell. By comparison the scent from Gabels Bay Rum is more defined and lasts a lot longer. I normally avoid writing product reviews but the quality of Gabels Bay Rum impressed me.

Yes, I buy this by the gallon to refill my 12oz Gabels bottle. Basic bay rum scent- clean, alcohol, spice (clove, cinnamon, tiny bit of citrus) but not overwhelming. More lemon than orange essence, not typical of bay rum aftershaves. My wife likes it so I like it. It’s SO inexpensive but it’s gone in 15min. I started purchasing bay rum essential oil and adding some to the Gabels to make it last longer.

I have been using the 16oz bottle for a month or so. I liked it so much that I purchased a gallon jug. This gallon that I received smelled like a watered down rubbing alcohol. The color in the 16oz bottle was a much darker color. After putting some on out of the jug it still smelled like rubbing alcohol. At no time after dry down, did it give any scent whatsoever. The aftershave in the jug, in no way, resembles the aftershave in the 16oz bottle. So, take it for what it's worth, I really like the aftershave in the 16oz bottle. The company refunded my money without incident... 03-21-18: I have reordered another gallon jug of this aftershave, just in case the gallon of watered down alcohol on the first one was a bad batch... 3-25-18: I just received the new gallon jug of this aftershave, it's exact to the scent and color of the 16oz bottle. I ordered this from a different company and it arrived in pristine condition. Upon opening this jug, I smelled no raw alcohol, just the mild scent that the 16oz bottle has. The color in the jug is the same darker color that's in the 16oz bottle. So, on this new jug I give a 5 star rating, AS I GAVE THE 16OZ BOTTLE. If you like, read my review on the 16oz bottle 5 stars and you'll see way I ordered the gallon jug. GOOD AFTERSHAVE FOR THE MONEY. Thank you if you read my novel on this product...

This bay rum is light and fresh. It’s great as an after shower spray and refresher during the day. The size is really funny for personal use and my wife had a good chuckle but financially it makes sense. I fill a spray bottle with it and it’s great for everyday. Very happy with it.

Hey, this stuff is the best kept secret in America. Even the NSA hasn't caught wind of this yet! Gables Bay Rum is the essence of "old-time" bay rum aftershave. Welcome back to 1965! It is very cooling and pleasant to use, it has a great, subtle smell and is not heavily-scented with cloves, cinnamon, citrus, or any of the other "additives" that other commercial Bay Rum products promote. Just a bracing, spicy scent that feels great after SHAVING! Yes, Gabels is an AFTER-SHAVE product, NOT a Cologne! If you're looking for something that people will smell from across the room, you're fishing in the wrong stream here, but if you are looking for a clean, (not oily-feeling), basic after shave, this is it! A Gallon seems like a big gamble for first-timers, but at this price, you really can't lose. And if you love this stuff as so many have over the years, you'll feel like you just hit the lottery!
