Visually, this is very similar in style to an IKEA Billy-style bookcase -- but WORSE. The boards are white melamine covered particle board, with an excessively plasticky finish. The top, curiously is only white on top, and bare brown below. The backing is a stiff cardboard/particleboard. The top is not square, look closely at the pics, the sides are higher than the top board. The biggest problem is you really need two people to assemble. Primary assembly is just 8 screws on all the corners, but there's no good way to align and square it with one person unless you are really adept at holding and balancing. Installation is also only practical with a motorized Philips driver. The shelf pins are not particularly heavyweight. The result is overall worse than IKEA. Unless the price was <$20, hard to say this is a good buy. Especially since it looks kind of cheap once it's together. ... show more

    • Sturdy and easy to assemble
Pros: Easy to put together Not as heavy as it looks Cons: Thin backing is practically paper, already ripped No instructions included, but it was still easy to figure out assembly Summary: I put this together in less than 15 minutes. I used a drill for the four screws to get them in faster, but the holes were pre drilled. Shelves were a pieces of cake to put in. The back of the shelves is just a thin piece of cardboard, and part of it ripped along one seam (it was tri-folded for shipping) when I opened it up, The back is attached with nails, so you'll need a small hammer. (Careful--it would be easy to punch through it.) Bottom line: It's sturdy and easy to assemble, but the materials are cheap. It probably won't survive a lot of moves but it will get the job done once you have it in place. ... show more

This is a basic, pressed board bookcase that is perfect for a small room. This took about 10 minutes to assemble, then it's ready to use. It won't take a lot of abuse, so I wouldn't put it in an area where it's going to get bumped and nicked. This bookcase does look nice, as shown in my photo.
