Very easy to assemble. Wood shelves are a nice quality. My only complaint is the cheap plastic poles. It'd look nicer if the poles were also wooden. But it looks great and assembly was so simple I didn't even need instructions.

I bought the 5 tier corner shelf in dark cherry and black. As others stated, the shelves are not finished on the bottom, but it still looks nice and is not that noticeable unless you're looking for it. The shelves are made of laminated particle board and the rungs are plastic. It was very simple and quick to put together, and no tools were needed. The rungs screw together through holes in the shelves, and it is possible to eliminate shelves if desired. It looks good in the room, and blends in with the nicer furniture. With respect to stability, it is very light weight, but also reasonably stable if you make sure that the rungs are tight. I have this shelf in my living room and have a salt lamp on the middle shelf, a light weight Buddha fountain above it, and a few small books with agate rock bookends on the shelf below the salt lamp. It's sitting on medium nap carpet in the corner. It's wobbly if you touch it near the top, but sturdy enough to stay standing undisturbed. I don't have any fear that it will fall over. I love this shelving unit, it was exactly what I was looking for! TECHNICAL: It was very easy to put together, no tools needed, just screw each pole together with the platforms in between, the bottom platform has an extra hole for the leg so watch out for that. Each shelf can only hold about 20lbs according to the instructions so while it fit my needs it may not be good for heavy figurines and so on. Each shelf is about 14" apart allowing you to store a multitude of items. The shelving unit is lightweight and in turn not extremely sturdy but is 100% better if you can actually put it against the corners of a room. Free standing like mine, an animal or child could probably knock it over. LOOKS: I ordered dark cherry and black and I think it looks really lovely. The wood is very attractive and it is only when you get close that you notice it is chipboard or otherwise. Blends well into a home. OVERALL: This piece is a wonderful, cost friendly, addition to your home if you need a shelf to keep lighter weight items. It is easy to assemble and is versatile. If you are looking for something to hold figurines or something precious, I would get something sturdier that holds more weight. ... show more

While this is no high-end shelf, my five stars are based on easy of assembly and the general functionality of the product, not to mention the fact that I know what to expect for $20. It arrives in a rather small box, but you almost don't need instructions to put it together. It's pretty obvious where each piece goes, requires no tools at all, and can be done in less than five minutes. I bought this for my new apartment, which doesn't have enough room between the wall and the bed for my nightstand. Needing somewhere to put my alarm clock, glasses, etc. when I go to bed, I was looking for pretty much anything that would fit in the space. I was actually searching for a super-skinny table of some kind when I saw this shelf, and the dimensions were just perfect. It's even a better solution than my night stand, since there are 5 tiers on which to place things. I ordered the "Dark Cherry & Black" one. The tube are simple black plastic, and the shelves are particle board covered in a sheet of something that resembles cherry in color and some generic wood grain. I think the Dark Brown & Black would have matched my decor a little better, but for some reason, the cherry was substantially less expensive, and it didn't make sense to pay more for something that will rarely be seen by anyone except me and my dog. It's definitely a cheapie, but it doesn't look at all bad once put together and set up over in the corner. It's also very lightweight, which is great for someone like me trying to move it into place. I don't have it flush up against the wall, since I don't want it brushing against the painted wall in a rented place, but it holds steady enough, even through all my half-blind trying to slap the snooze button every morning. I built this thing and it was working just fine until it got tipped over and the 2 top tiers broke off… Now it’s only 3 levels… Which still work and why I’m giving 3 states and not 1… What’s left is still useable…
