I bought these on sale 2 for $33. Always,always know you get what you pay for. I put the first one together and it is truly a 15 min job. Not one screw all the hardware is plastic ware and wood dowels. I was surprised when all the holes lined up for the backing which barely passed a paper classification. All in all it's a MEH! First of all, I did not expect this to be an exciting piece of furniture, I just needed something small and simple to condense the footprint my cookbooks. I have an awkward little piece of counter on one side of a cabinet, and this would make use of that space. First I dusted all of the parts as I made certain that they were all there & counted the hardware. I took pause at the plastic parts, but vetoed my common sense and placed the wooden dowels anyhow. Because stickers usually wind up in awkward places, I figured I would remove them as I assembled. When I removed the first sticker and it took the finish off, I figured it was a fluke and I'd cover it with marker, even though it would probably show a bit - while it was in-line with holes for a shelf, it was for the opposite side and would not be covered. I very cautiously proceeded to try to remove the next sticker and it happened again. No, just no. They don't even do the courtesy of labeling the unfinished side or placing the stickers where it would assemble to hide the damage. (Honestly unless there are a gazillion pieces, I don't see the point in the labels. Also, we've had this lovely "post-it" removable adhesive technology for a couple of decades now - hint, use it!) Other than the dowel pegs, the rest of the hardware is plastic. So if this is only for VERY light use, it should be fine. However, I am dubious that the plastic would hold up more than a few months with books on the shelves, even though only a limited number would fit on each shelf. And even less confident in the finish if the books I'm pulling off the shelf aren't soft-cover. Yes, it would be easy to assemble, however, I'm not going to bother. If it had been a $20 or less item, I would probably throw contact paper over it prior to assembly. For nearly $40, it's going back. Buyer beware; think about how you'll use this item and whether or not you're prepared to creatively change the finish when it inevitably comes off. ... show more

    • No Tool Assembly At Your Own Risk!

This is a $30 item. Contrary to some reviews I have seen there Were instructions. Cons: The back is cheap cardboard - think cereal packet - and split near one end. Alignment for fasteners is not great. Virtually none of the fasteners have an extra provided - a common help for a broken or dropped and lost item. One item broke while assembling. Plus: CHEAP! Easy to assemble. Do NOT go Tool Free, you’ll wreck your fingers. I used a six inch hobby hammer, wooden handle and steel head. Seems fairly sturdy and will probably out last me. Stickers can be removed using a thumb nail. Perhaps folks having problems are using a Back Hoe? Is it an Heirloom item? No Consider “To my Nephew Damien I leave my Furinno Pasir 3-Tier No Tool Assembly Open Shelf Bookcase. Everything else he ever owned he trashed. I bought 2 of these to put side by side horizontally. They look ok, they were the size I needed so I kept them. However, there are no screws, it was all plastic "hardware" to put it together. The instructions say 10 mins to put together. Ha. Maybe if you put together these for a living you can do it fast. LOL. It is more like 30-40 mins minimum. The plastic hardware is a bit raised so you do not get a smooth surface. That was disappointing. You can see the top of the white plastic screws sticking out maybe 1/16" or so. Some of the plastic pieces were broken that holds the black flimsy cardboard on the back. I should write for replacements. It isn't too sturdy. If I could have found better bookcases in the size I needed, I would have bought something else. But I was stuck needing the 9" depth. It says each shelf holds 10 lbs. I am sure the shelves will warp someday but hoping they will last awhile. When you take the stickers off on each piece (A, B, C etc), a bit of the finish comes off and I did it slow and carefully but it still didn't help. Definitely not the best quality. Some shelves had chips but it was on the back side, not really seen. I have bought other shelves by Furinno that were better quality. I probably will not purchase from them again. They say no tools needed but I still needed a mallet, used carefully, as I am not strong enough to push those plastic pieces & wood dowels in place. So, I am giving this 3 stars because of the plastic hardware and poor quality. They need to provide real hardware to make this better quality and needs a better finish. A better quality cardboard on back too and not plastic "nails" to hold it in place. ... show more

I got this shelf at a super amazing deal of just under $9 each. The backing is cardboard like everyone else says but its sturdy enough to use to display things or for closet organization. I would absolutely recommend buying it if its under $20.
