You can't expect much for the price, and that's just what one gets. The pieces are a bit wonky, the fit is a bit wonky. But once you get the long screws in it is solid enough to hold books. Admittedly, the only reason I was willing to buy so cheap is the case was going in a closet, out of sight. All shelves are now filled with books so I really don't see the crappy cardboard backing. But it doesn't wobble and it is fit for its particular purpose. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't discourage the purchase either. If you just need something to hold books, this works great. I would never buy it for a display piece, as it does have some gapping between pieces. Assembly was a bit of a hassle, I had to get my dad’s help to drive some of the screws (I’m a teenage girl BTW). The backboard I got was lightly stained and just barely too small to use the included pegs with, so I ended up using some 5/8 inch nails I had on hand. A third shelf would make it perfect for me. A lot of my books are small so I feel like there is a lot of dead space. In the end, it works great as an inexpensive storage unit, but if you want something for show, spend the extra dollar on something higher quality. ... show more

My boards came with very few holes made and the few that were there were almost invisible and not in the correct spot/ measured unevenly. Then when we did attach the pieces the boards kept warping or cracking so it was wobbly. It was an awful assembly process! It said easy assembly for 1 person in 30 mins. I bought this for my office at work to put my plants on and keep my little knickknacks in. It holds up good in terms of sturdiness, but the woodgrain print cover that is over the particle board flakes off and leaves big spots where you can see the particle board. not cute.

This shelf is of better quality than some of the lower priced shelves. It has an extra horizontal member attached to the top shelf which makes it stronger. I purchase it to store old family photographs and photo albums, which are fairly heavy. It works great!

You do have to use the instructions to assemble the bookshelf and you should pay attention to the orientation of the pieces as you're putting it together. It's easy to reverse them. I do love this bookshelf though! I measured my space and this was the only shelf I could find that was a perfect fit! It matches the rest of my furniture, was affordable, and is very sturdy. it holds the fabric boxes 10 in size. I placed my two 3 compartment kitchen drawer organizer but it is a little big so I may place in a few smaller boxes. It will work for my fabric stash.
