This is a 5 stars product to me even with its few flaws. Why?! because it works perfectly fine as a bookshelf and it's pretty inexpensive. According to the instruction, each tier can hold up to 15 lb, which is reasonable a rating for its design. General speaking the lowest shelf is the strongest, thus, the heavier books should go down there. If you look at the second photo in my review, you will see a particle board with a pre-drilled hole. That is how the whole thing is put together. There are 2 holes in each side, and each board is secured with 4 screws in each side. Because particle board doesn't have a lot of strength, this design is NOT very strong at all. While a 15 lb rating is good enough for most people, you can increase its holding power by installing few small L-brackets underneath each rack and after that it would be very nice. I can tell that the particle boards is of very high quality and it should hold up to 50 lb after installing few L-brackets. (Update: I went out and bought few L-brackets for few dollars. And After installing them, the boards are totally stable. These brackets are necessity for this shelf in my opinion, even if you don't really put too much weight in it.) The other thing I want to say is the 3 back panels. Despite of their thinness, they are actually very important for stabilizing the whole frame. The instruction doesn't say to nail in the middle section and it doesn't come with extra nails neither, but it's crucial to have nails in those strategical spots. I got my own small black nails and hammer in 12 extra nails in the middle sector. See photos. Last but not least, I will buy this shelf again. If not to put books in, it can be used as a very nice organizer for other stuffs. Shipping is surprising fast for a heavy item like this. I ordered in on Sep 8, and got it here in Sep 12, and it's free shipping.

I buy a lot on Amazon and read lots of reviews. So I thought I should write one about this. This thing is absolutely horrible! Granted nobody expects shelves at this price to be solid wood, but do yourself a favor and get something else. There are a lot of inexpensive shelves on the market. We have just moved into a new home and have been installing some. Picked this one up because of the color and the price. Big mistake. This is absolutely the worst of the lot. This shelf uses Phillips head wood screws into particleboard. Very flimsy. The particleboard is very, very cheaply made.

Our church sewing group needed a small bookcase for some small project boxes. We didn’t want to go to garage sales due to social distancing. We took a chance on this. I’m over 60 years old and over the years I’ve assembled numerous boxed bookcases and this is by far and away the worst one ever. The way it was predrilled was off. As a result the sides are effectively upside down...the finished edge is in the bottom and the unfinished edge is on the top as shown in the attached photo. The documentation that came with it states a weight limit of 15 lbs per shelf. I sincerely doubt that the entire unit could support 15 lbs. I know that you get what you pay for but in my wildest dreams I couldn’t fathom that something so cheap would ever be available for sale. Makes me wish I’d gone to a big box store which is typically my last resort.

So far so good I just put it up in my sons room for all his books it is a little unstable on the carpet so I will get some furniture ties to keep it from falling on him also for some reason I thought the shelfs were adjustable but they are not. I also do not like how you can see te screws on the side but again this is working well for his books and even his tall books for with out an issue

This was a great cheap buy. I got for $13. I put together myself and had no issues. Took less than 20 mins. I chose to leave the backing off. It's in our playroom and I liked it best without it. I had no issues lining the holes up. It's cheap feeling but looks fine for what I wanted it for.

Despite the numerous bad reviews I took a chance and ordered 3 of these bookcases. I had an awful time finding what I wanted for under my mounted tv. These were the height I needed and 3 put together was there perfect width. They arrived on time and the packaging was perfectly intact. After reading other reviews I knew the bottoms of the shelves were unfinished so I took all 9 (a) shelves outside and quickly spray painted them with expresso paint. I didn't bother with the bottom most shelf because it won't be seen. After they dried (25 mins) I assembled all 3 units within an hour. I did use a power driver and used finesse driving each screw, making sure to go slow enough so I didn't strip anything. There are no pre drilled holes for the back, so please take your time and make sure each nail is centered. I also suggest laying the unit on a towel before nailing on the back if you have hard floors. I took the advice of another reviewer and purchased a pack of angle brackets (50x 1" black brackets $15 prime+ 100x 3/8 6M black sheet metal screws $6 prime) I used 4 angle brackets per shelf and it really made a huge difference in stability. When all three units were together I placed a 10"Wx 66"Lx3/4"H stained board on top of them and secured it from under the top shelf of each unit with a 3/4" wood screw(after adding pilot holes) this worked well to keep all 3 units snug together. The expresso color is very dark brown and looks black in low light. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I knew the units would need additional adjustments to be what I wanted, and it was worth the extra effort. I will edit if anything changes with my satisfaction.
